Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Wow, I go off Silkie stalking for a couple of days and miss pages and pages of chat! Lots of beautiful bubbies and even though the heat is messing with us again, sounds like everyone is doing OK which is good news!

If you haven't already guessed I know squat about roosters except that I might have one .. the jury is still out on that! :)

Taking the above into account, I have what might be a dumb question ... Some parrots were fighting in the back garden, over the seed I give them and Dusty started doing her egg songish routine, one long buck and then lots of little ones; repeat! Suzi, the maybe rooster, started mimicking her, sounded just like a hen.

My dumb question .. do roosters do that, make the hen-song noises?

In my experience, yes, they can.

Here is our old boy having a go.

Just to even things up a bit we had a pullet seem to have a go at crowing. We did not have any roo's at the time.

Thank you Ben :)
Tee hee, hmmpf, back to living in denial!! lol
My definite egg laying 12 month old Bantam Langshan had a go at crowing a couple of weeks ago; it was a pretty good impersonation and we do not have roosters either (fingers crossed!!)

So is this where the Aussies hang out? Hi :)

Yep, your amoungst friends here. Welcome to BYC. Tell us about your flock.

I'm new here and to chickens really! I got my first chickens about 8 months ago. Started with 4 one year old Isa's from the local egg farm. Fox got one and injured another a couple of months later. Injured one survived though! Has a limp from her injury, but she's a good little chicken. I called her Kylie because she should be so lucky LOL!

I got 3 year old Hylines a couple of months ago and they settled in well after a couple of weeks of fighting. Hoping to get some young Speckled Sussex in a week as I've heard good things about them, and maybe some Lace Barnvelders if/when the breeder gets some chicks.

Here's some of my girls enjoying their afternoon run in the garden.
