Another under the chicken pen mama, who had 4 chicks hatch and two in the bator she left.

I sold my coro youngsters yesterday, the ones that were sleeping on the laundry window. I miss them and the little blue laced red cockerel that thought he was their brother , spent all day looking for them. Funny how you get used to them greeting you in the garden but I need to get everyone back into the pens the poop is driving me mad. My little miss prinny went with them and I almost didn't let her go, but they were going to a good free range home and I'm sure they'll be happy. Lord knows I have lots of chicks to grow out.

Yay! Fitted the magical door yesterday. Today is the final clean up and that should be it. The door is charging at the moment, so hopefully tomorrow will open automatically. So far, no breakouts from the new enclosure, I re-directed their run into a dense clump of bamboo so it's harder for them to spread their wings and jump the fence. No eggs at all since lat Sunday, I hope they settle and start laying again soon! The work on our deck also starts tomorrow, so I'll try to take some pictures today and post 'em up.

Try buying the pyrethrum head lice stuff from woollies lather it all over on everyone might help. Also wash everything in hot water and use eucalyptus oil in wash.
Thanks! The great washing journey begins today. Just as I smugly wrote my last post about stopping the escapee, and she wanders into the kitchen and casually starts eating the cat food! Crisis averted, hopefully...I think I found her jumping point and raised the fence there another few feet Thank goodness for the big roll of plastic trellis!!
Ginger is in the nesting box though, so fingers crossed! I've just realised I should have popped an egg in there to show therm where to lay...oh well!

Quote: I have the grey ones!! I think....lol.

Ok guys! Let's try these three! Bet they're all boys too!

Chick 1

Chick 2

Chick 3

You have the worst luck!! All boys, sorry.
Number two could turn around to be a girl but I don't think so.

Luuuuke I do live in the city but I sell the chickies to family and friends who have fallen in love with mine hehe I got enough room for them though mum lets them run rampant and free range in the garden and they are out whenever someone is home which is almost all day every day.. 34 eggs in the bator and $120 worth annnnnd there's like 2 fertile.. I'm spewing!
LUCKY city chicks

I had a wingless DRAGON visit our coop yesterday....he came for the peeping of the youngsters and the hatching of eggs.

I was on BYC, when we heard this almighty commotion. I raced down to the run and into the nest shed only to find this monster!!!! My 3 Marans X's where only 1 day old when this creature attacked. Broody mum was going bonkers as the Goanna struck several times at her. The chicks and mum where in a sectioned off area of the nest shed and the goanna had managed to get in there. I got broody mum out and trapped the Goanna in the sectioned of area. At this time it was suspected that all the chicks had been eaten

. I got my dad and sister down and together we managed to heard the lizard into this cage and let me tell you....it wasn't easy. To make things even harder the cage was, well not very capable at containing a Goanna.lol.
He almost escaped countless times and this same lizard is a repeat offender, taking several chicks and egg in the past, so this was our chance to finally relocate him!

All the neighbors came around for a look before we loaded him onto the ute.

Not the best pictures...but when this lizard is hissing up a storm, attacking the cage with his bacteria filled mouth and scratching you sort of loose the nerve to put your hand close and get a picture!!

He gave a wicked hiss and charged at us a few times!

We know he is the same lizard from previous attacks because of that kinked and gnarled tail.

( Not a great shot )
We loaded him onto the truck and drove him far into the deep dark bush to be released. He had one last charge at me before racing up this tree. I had to leap up onto the truck as he was coming straight for me.lol.

YOU AREEE JOKING!!!!! That thing is horrible! I wish it no harm lol but gahhh gives me the creeps! Big half dragon half dinosaur looking thing! Almost prefer a snake hahaha

Luke $10 says if any of these new eggs hatch they'll be roosters! Hahaha
