Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I love my vege too. It surely is an aussie thing lol. Omg king George cross platypus... Very interesting indeed  You would have to be an aussie to get the "Not happy jan" thing lol. We are an odd bunch us aussies not many get our sense of humors lucky we all do :) 3 pm here in qld.

Lol, I wonder if any one else would get Rhonda and khatut ?

Ive watched the tube twice and I chalk it up to Aussie sentiment. King George I get that hes an extraordinary speciMEN If theres platypuss in the pond so to speak yould better put a leash on him lol
Do you have trouble with the dingos or is that folklore praytell

Hello cockoftherock, My main predators are Wedge Tail Eagles, hawks and foxes. We have platypus in our creek too but there are no wild dingos around my area (I know a few pet dingos). There are areas in Australia where farmers do lose animals to them though and wild dogs are a big problem.

We cant give our Eagles wedgies over here they are protected. srry. couldnt help myself ha. Its interesting tho because I almost asked what kind of birds or fowl you guys have that we may not but we have almost 200 chickens alone and I dont know the half of them. I do hear of new birds from other places that end up here on occassion tho Just after midnite here

Well the new shed/coop is marvellous,,,safe, dry and easy to clean. The one problem is that the girls have decided that they don't like the nesting box I have supplied, and after another few days of having no eggs, I discovered a nest in the middle of the bamboo patch. I took out the eggs and chucked a bit of wood on top and moved the eggs into their nesting box. Today I find two eggs perched on top of the piece of wood! How can I get them to lay in the shed??

Lock them up for a week and put a ' dummy ' egg or even a golf ball in the nest box. They'll get the idea eventually.

Can I please ask for help again........ I've had a chick born but it doesn't look like its bottom has formed properly, its now 36 hours old and although its all dried up (including its bottom) it just doesn't look right......... Is this little chick doomed if so should I put it to sleep? :(

Oh your not having a very good time of it are you? Keep the little pooper free and open. If you run warm water in the tap, you can hold the chicks butt under it and gently wash away any debris. Give the chick boiled or scrambled egg. Stand the chick on the kitchen bench ( I put mine on a bread board ) place the egg in front of it and tap the board ,close to the egg , with your finger. ( by doing this you are mimicking momma hen ) If you have some electrolytes or Gatorade give some in an eye dropper. Be very careful to only give a drop at a time as it is very easy to aspirate a chicken.
As cruel as it may seem , if you cannot get the chick to eat and poop, the kindest thing to do would be to euthanise . Good luck.

The chick might not have fully absorbed the yolk yet. With a little tlc like fancy said she may come good. Just make sure when you are cleaning her bottom you don't knock off the umbilicle cord (if it is even called that) That will drop off naturally when it is ready :) Best of luck

I saw this guy on my driveway today and as I got closer I noticed it had my dogs stuffed toy rat!
Just out of curiosity, has anyone had one harassing their chicks?
