lol Normally its me that hatches all the roos and when i sell eggs to people they tell me what great hen hatch rates they get lol. Maybe i have passed my jinxed gene on to you... Rexy marans I ended up with i think 12 boys and 6 girls lol..

Satay, more marans!! Have you sold many eggs through the fb site, cos I see a couple wtb for marans eggs? I have a bit of an inferiority complex and am always worried that the eggs I sell wont be dark enough. A;so, I dislike the whole postage bit. As you know, mine have very good fertility, but they get very ordinary hatch rates when I post them. Sold all the girls from the last hatch by 2 weeks old, so just put some more in the incubator.

Found an egg stash yesterday, with about 25 eggs in it, all from one young marans girl.

I have to people that have bought from me before. The two on fb pmed me and then complained i lived to far away and their eggs would be scrambled lol.. Whatever... lol. I have sold a few dozen now to locals which has been good. Have sold all bar two of my welliies now to so i can consentrate on the marans. Must get some updated pics of your girls. They are looking stunning.

Omg don't they. She is not so little now so i am sure she will be back later but it is too darn hot to go look for her right now . Just hit 43c. I must get a pic of mumma scovey sitting on her 4 marans eggs

That is not a good %. When I got this roo, they told me he was a pullet producer!!!! Although he has ended up being a bout 50/50, my first hatch from him was 5 boys/1 girl. Hope you got some blues, Satay. Are they a nice colour?

Some are lighter and some darker. Couldn't say for sure if any are blue in the hens but i have kept 2 roos one is normal colour like my roos were at that age and one is more blue colour where the black is on the other.

The sex of the chick is determined by the hen before it has started developing so I wouldn't give your boys too much of a hard time
I now have 8 chicks hatched from the nest under the car!

You can't tell for sure with the girls until they are about 3 or so months old. I have 5 month old one here that I need to take pics of. Probably have time tomorrow (if it isn't raining )
