Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Thank you Luke :)

Fancychooklady; yep, I was so hoping Cilla would get some bubbies after all her hard work; she is such a good mumma and is currently in her element :)

Thank you TheChookPatch :)

And, I do not think they are all roosters; I have room for 2 more girls :-D

@fancychooklady Hi Fancy. The girls are doing great. I speak to hubby a few times a day and no doubt the chicken update is given to me. Haha. I go home Tuesday can't wait to see the pets. Hootabell is still the nest due to hatch the day I come back.
I too have been lurking in the back ground reading all the posts.
Congrats everyone on the new chickies! Sorry for your losses :(
Sorry I haven't been posting but I'm still in Melbourne and chickenless lol :p

Woo hooo; 7 from 9 so far .. giving the remaining two a bit longer even though I could not see any pips :) I ordered a dozen eggs from the breeder and because I knew Cilla could probably not handle any more than 9, Son, Hubby and myself got to pick 3 eggs each. Score Card to Date: Son = 3 from 3 Hubby = 3 from 3 Me - 1 from 3 ... pffft lol Without further adieu, their first public appearance; except for those who were camera shy ... so happy! :celebrate
:love So pretty :love Gratz :)

Sadly it is not good news for a couple of my bubbies :(
We had two with what looked like head injuries this morning; one had passed away and the other one is not looking good. Feeling a bit gutted! I didn't have a lot of time to do much this morning before having to leave for work but Hubby is home and is going to keep an eye on the remaining injured one. The other 5 look fine.

I have no idea what happened, maybe their little skulls were not properly formed and they got a bit squashed under Cilla; I also wonder if she might have got a little over zealous with pushing the remaining eggs around under her and maybe caught these two with her beak. For that reason, I have taken the remaining two eggs away. Today is Day 22 and there was no sign of pipping and I just don't want to take the chance of more injuries if these were the cause. As I said, I have no idea but I do not think she would intentionally hurt them; she is being so good with them and she was fine with her first hatch.

I hope everyone is OK when I get home; this is not a nice feeling

Plus, Hubby is booked in for surgery this afternoon ... going to be a very apprehensive day I think!

:hugs these things happen and there is probably nothing you could have done to change the outcome . Look after hubby and let's hope cilla gets the hang of motherhood.

Thank you Fancychooklady :)

Hubby just rang and the 5 healthy bubbies are currently 'playing' in the food bowl and Cilla is watching over them. This is her second hatch and she successfully raised 5 from 5 last one. As I mentioned, I did not have a lot of time before work this morning to spend with them but he has had a look at the remaining 'injured' chickie which has now also passed and he thinks it could be a birth defect as it does not look right in the belly plus it's 'head injury'.

Thanks again for the support .. I am telling myself that sometimes $#%@ happens for no good reason! :)

That's good philosophy to live by. My 3 little Silkie eggs didn't hatch. 1 was rolled over at the crucial time of internal pip and drowned, one disappeared ( rats )
And the other is still under mum. I think I will just make the most of the 2 that did hatch. Nothing else to do.

Thank you both

This is only my second hatch and the first time I have lost bubbies; I imagine it will never be easy but the joy far outweighs the sadness and I will keep telling myself that. The support on BYC is priceless!

Thanks again!
