Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Yeah I thought that my RIR would be seeing Dove in a new light now she's also using the nest.. Thanks for confirming I'm not crazy for thinking chooks do these things hahaha :) they're all been really good today and there was the only one attack I would have heard other as the chooks are in the yard.. Have 6 chooks and they've never ever been this horrible to one another.. Hmmm I'll be watching them all very very closely though from now on.. I have set up the "naughty corner coop" just incase though haha

Thank you Karen. We lost two more yesterday from another tractor so last night the last tractor full was brought up and placed right outside where Zeus and Thor sleep.. All are looking good today.

Sorry to hear that Satay.

I hope my girls are OK for these couple of days till we go home. I have a neighbour feeding them till we get back but my Broody is ready to hatch the day we get back.

Mmmm hopefully it stops soon she hides pretty well from the attack.. There are 2 nest boxes the same but they all insist on using the same one!.. Crazy things!

I have 5 nesting boxes but they all lay in the 1 box.
Maybe isolate your RIR for a week or so and then reintroduce her, this sometimes changes the pecking order, especially is the RIR is continously aggressive.

Hi everyone, I have a question in regards to coccidiosis. We got some new chicks in and have a feeling that's where it came from, we started Keystat straight away because we couldn't get Baycox for a day or 2 so figured better off starting something. I would like to know how long after starting it is it safe to take them outside. I plan to put them well away from any spot I may use in future for chicks. There is no diarrhoea, or blood. There is one little hen that seems to have been knocked around by it though, she is eating, drinking and passing normal stools but is very quiet.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The key starts active ingredient is amprolium so I'd stick with that as it is effective against all strains of cocci. The amprolium starves the coccidia and in order to build immunity you need to give the full course. Full dose for 5-7 days , then halve the dose for further 5-7 days, then drop it back to a quarter dose for 5-7 days for maximum impact. Cocci are in the soil, so it is best to allow exposure to it from an early age, so yes let them out, it will help them to build the immunity that they need.
Amprolium is a B group vitamin inhibitor so it's important not to give any vitamin supplements while you are using it. Cocci is everywhere but it only becomes a problem when there is an overload.
Some chickens will be more affected than others, I would treat the entire flock.
