Hello there Fancy:) . Those Wyandottes laying yet?

Hi Lucas, no not yet, but they are squatting and making nice nests in the hay, can't be far away.
Only got 2 x coro, another hatched about midnight, it was still wet , so I thought I'd leave it with mum till the morning. Big mistake , the rats took it. She's still on another 5 eggs but unless I get them first the rats will get them. So I do a midnight check of the pens for the next week or so. :th

I bet you'll get one tomorrow.

How many did you set ( I forgot sorry )? What where you doing down at the chickens at midnight?!?!
Oh, I am so sorry for your loss, I now see why you go down.

These eggs were under a coro when ' lefty ' the goss hawk scared her off. I put half under a silkie and the other half under a light sussex. The silkie hatched 2 and I popped the others under the LS. I'm not sure I should trust the LS cause while she is desperate to be a mum, she lost all of her chicks to rats. And yes I'll be out there at midnight with my torch and back again at 4-30 - 5 am
The 2 that hatched are absolutely gorgeous . There is something about coronation sussex chicks, they are fast becoming my favorite . Will get some pics tomorrow.

Now that is dedication.
I personally would just take care of those pesky rats.
Can't wait to see them:) .

Lol, the cats can't keep up with them. The farrier was here yesterday and while I was holding the horse for him I found a rats head in the dirt. :sick
They are pretty smart, they know not to show their faces during the day. The chooks love mice and rats. But once the sun goes down and the chooks are in their comotozed state, the rats come out to play.
