Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Well it's a sad day here :hit . Mr Snakey got two of our quails :( . We only have got one left now:hit . Any suggestions on what to do now? We were sure the pen was snake proof. We have no idea how he got in.
That's a nice lookin snake! Sorry about your loss:( As someone who keeps snakes, that cage is not snake proof! Have you considered lining the entire enclosure in the smallest size wire? If you can pry it open so can a snake. We bolt our snake doors closes to prevent them prying their way out (also stops small children opening the doors)

@cluckcluckl I'm sorry about ur quail. We had the same problem here up until a week and a half ago when we caught the bugger! It had taken some of our baby chickens over the space of a few weeks.. 1 a week... Over 5 weeks or so! Every time we thought we'd fixed everything, until it happened again! Now we think we have hopefully got it right cos we found the snake on the outside trying to get in, caught it and relocated it. It was the same carpet like urs, measuring about 2.4m tho!
Sorry to those who like them... But man, I don't like snakes

OH Luke I'm sorry for your loss :hit but that is a beautiful coastie. This time of year they will be looking to bulk up for winter from now on so they eat heaps before they hibernate. Check your cages they will get in the smallest hole as they will squash themselves down this to slither through or under something. Let me know if you want some quail eggs to hatch and i'll send you some down.

Send it to satay, :lau

If only it was that easy lol. I would love it. Now I am sure the licence people would not appreciate me having it in a cage but I would be happy to release it on our property.
On second thoughts send it to Sam.. She is closer and her hubby would love it lol, Ok he might not but sam would :)

I went out yesterday to get a rooster for my two Belgium D'Uccles. I went back to the original breeder that I got my two girls from. She ended up giving me the boy as she said he wasn't perfect (she shows and wins with her D'uccles and Pekins). He looks pretty fine to me. So of course then I still had cash to spend as you do... So I also bought a pair of Black pekins to go with my two black girls from her. I will post some pics if I can get the internet to play nice.
