Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Temporarily delurking to once again ask a question

I actually posted this on the chicken behaviour thread because I seem to hit you guys up an awful lot for advice and then I realised that you guys are probably the only ones not sleeping at the moment.

I am a bit worried about Dusty and was hoping for some advice as to whether she is just molting.

If you have a minute, I would really appreciate you checking out my post and hopefully putting my mind at ease, please ....

Looks and sounds like a typical moult to me :) The weather has been messing with all my girls, they don't seem to know when to moult!

Phew! Thank You TheChookPatch :)

I confess to coming home, seeing the state she was in, feathers everywhere and hitting the panic button! As you do! lol

I have frantically been trawling my way through numerous web sites and besides, not starting at the head and neck, it does sound like a molt.

I picked her up and she didn't seem too happy about it ... I have since learnt that it can be painful and not to pick them up unless you have to. Now I just feel like a mean mum

You are a great mum, any good mum would look at all the possibilities and you need to pick them up to check her thoroughly

Still keep an eye on her and up her protein, maybe with some tinned fish treats as the omega 3 will help with feather development too..

Thanks again TheChookPatch :)

Yep, no more picking her up and lots of love and protein.

Apparently eggs are good also. I usually give them eggs but as she is not laying and everyone else is too young or still looking after bubbies I now have to buy eggs to feed to my chickens! lolz
