Can you make something like a sexlink with another breed and mr pew pew? Just thinking you could use the pens for that?

I got a loaner incubator so my eggs have hope lol. It's a 48 egg jn8-48 he bought off eBay. Doesn't seem to have a very good review online but I believe he hatched about 25 chicks so probably better than my crab tank lol. So since the eggs are already in less than optimal conditions already do you think it's okay to just run for a couple of hours till up to temp rather than the 24 advised?

It's great that you got an incubator, but I was kinda hoping that the crab tank would work out as a backup plan as we have one too. I can't give you any advice though as I've never used an incubator.

We just did a 2 hour trip to pick up some fertile Araucana eggs for Snowy. They look so pretty!


Then I had to delve under her to get my eggs. I thought that she had maybe 9/10, but she had managed to squirrel away 12. I replaced them with the blue eggs, but couldn't get them all under her so I hope she rearranges herself & sorts that out. How long before I can tell if she has accepted the new eggs? If she is still on the tomorrow & I can't see any poking out, then I'm hoping it will be safe to assume that she is happy with them.
The other 4 hens have had an anxious time adjusting to using a different nest. The fence is in place so they can't disturb Snowy & they finally gave in & laid in the other nest box today. The result was one whopper of an egg that Steve tried to hold in for as long as possible. 75g's! I think this may be our first double yolker.

I know! I was kinda hoping it would work too. Would have been cool I love the egg colour, was only googling them the other day. Haven't even hatched these and I'm already looking again lol My broody was a little unsure last night when I swapped them but this morning she had gone into super protective mode and even growled when I opened her door which she has never done so it didn't take long for her to decide they were hers.

Very good sign on the broody. What type of hen is she? 12 is a lot of eggs to put under a hen.

With the incubator, I always hook mine up in advance to get the temp right. At least 24hrs prior.

Outpost JWB, I'm not sure who you are asking, but if it's me, Snowy is called a Heritage Long Lay by the breeder. I think that's fancy speak for a white leghorn cross. She is a slender bird, but had managed to tuck those 12 eggs under her so I think it will be ok. My plan B is a heating pad (for siamese fighters) while I rush off to hire an incubator. It's another 2 hour round trip to the place that hires them out. Hopefully that won't be necessary!

Hi everyone . Im from sunny qld . We have been chicken people for almost a yr now .. at the moment we have 2 chickens 1 is your standard brown and the other is a white leghorn dont know if she is a he or a she yet .. we have lost 4 one to natural causes and 3 to my dogs .... I have had all my chicken from at least 2 weeks ... so far the longest one standing is my brown and she is best friends with my staffy which is beautiful to see them together ... love reading the posts and I think I am ganna need some advice on my white one as she is crowing and only 16 maybe 17 weeks old and no eggs ... ill try and gets some pics to see if someone can tell me if she is a leg horn and a girl ...

Hate to say it but as much as there are posts about crowing hens they are never 16 week old crowing hens. That however is exactly the age young males start to crow . So are you allowed to keep a rooster?
