@Satay - such cute babies!   I'm pretty sure chicks love dust just as much as they love grass.  : )

It turns out that I don't have a problem at all with my hens laying all over their run in the hay, just my daughter making nests all over the place & putting eggs in them because hay is fun to play in.

Here's a pic of some Marans eggs we were going to hatch out, luckily the broody stopped being broody the same day we got them so the better half didn't have a chance to throw them under her. Not the best time of year to hatch chicks here in Finland. Good thing she didn't dig out the incubator. *Edit* Hmm, the pic doesn't really do justice to the color.

Not bad colour on the marans Felix. I know what you mean though. The colour always comes out lighter than it is in pics.

I peeked under Bubbles this morning - at least 3 babies were out with another on the way

2 were dark; they may be the Faverolles and 1 was a bantam Rock.. Is it home time yet??

Thank you, they look like real chocolate eggs, I'll have to be careful when the grand kids come down for Easter that they don't try to take a bite of one, (that's if I can find a supplier close to me).

Those are lovely eggs. I've got 7 Wheaten Maran eggs under my Ara at the moment so I hope I get a gorgeous girl to keep out of that hatch. The eggs are such a nice deep colour.

Did I tell you guys I've just discovered there is such thing as an ermine faverolle available. Its a faverolle but coloured like a light Sussex!

So many breeds, so little room! Argh what's a girl to do !!!!!!!
