Sam, I was just out in a T-shirt, and it didn't feel too cold at 10C. I didn't stay out there for too long though. -20 is when it starts to get cold. My favorite weather is around -5 though, it's cold enough for the snow to stay solid even in the sun, but you can still do whatever you want outside. I hate winters when it bounces around 0, that's just icky.

Our favourite chicken Carl is sick :(

I thought she was Sunday because she was just standing under my chair for the longest time without moving and her tail was looking droopy and I heard her sneeze once so I gave her some scrambled eggs with some vitamin powder as a little pick me up. She seemed okay yesterday though I did hear a few more sneezes from her but this morning I've let them out and she has just stayed sitting on the roost.

Chickens do just get colds like the rest of us don't they?

Egg shells are 97% calcium carbonate. You either need to educate your feed store staff or sack them and move on. Shell grit is to aid in digestion because hens have no teeth, calcium carbonate is the most readily absorbed form of calcium supplement, the problem is people think they are one and the same.

Yeah I tried explaining that but he wasn't interested. I'll do a cook up of boiled eggs and take them the shells and see what ebay has to offer.

adelaide weather has been stupid. 33 then 20 and todays cold as well. I hate anything under 25 so pretty grumpy at the moment lol

LMAO Felix if we reach 10 I in winter I have the fireplace going the electric blankets on and am hibernating!

Mind I don't like heat either! Give me temperate 20-25 and I'm happy LOL Satay says it's too cold ! But they had colder temps than us and I'm in NSW a whole state South of her!

:lau Omg yes 10 in winter is truely unbearable. Sorry Fansy i know that yoru summer temps :p

Congrats :yiipchick

@satay
you must have heat hardened chickens or/and well managed heat.  My girls panted so badly & we were not nearly as hot as you.
Glad to hear that so far everyone's chooks have made it!

Snowy reintroduced herself to the flock yesterday (by escaping while the transfer from trampoline run was happening) & was chased across the lawn by Steve, but seeing as she can run faster there was no fight.  The hens haven't bothered at all about the chicks & seeing as Snowy kept jumping into the other part of the run today, I made a small gap for the chicks to come & go as they please.  Snowy sticks close to the fence & can get out of the broody run, but not back in.  So far so good luckily.  The only hassle is keeping the fence up so that the other chooks don't get stuck into the medicated feed.

Another hot day tomorrow.  Hope it goes ok for everyone!

I use alot of sprinklers systems and I am paranoid so i get nothing done going out checking on them every 30 mins or so. Today is suppossed to be a tad cooler with temps expected to reach about 38c or so out here. After yesterday that would be nice. It"s currently 29c already. Glad snowys reintroduction went well.
