Mondari I agree that your little one is looking roo-ish but having said that, don’t totally give up hope, as Sam suggested, maybe just be prepared. Probably will not be long before you know for sure and I would wait until then before giving up all hope.

I still have hopes that my little grey and white bub I really want to keep is a pullet but then I also have my suspicions that I am living in denial.

While I am going to take and share some more pictures on the weekend, I kinda don’t want to share them because everyone is going to say “looking like a rooster” and my bliss in ignorance will be shattered

But, even if the consensus is rooster, I will also be hanging in there until I know for sure.

Sam your roses are beautiful. I love roses, to look at, but not to grow myself. Mum had a huge garden full of roses and I remember many many hours having to ‘dead-head’ them. While I love gardening, ‘dead-heading’ 100’s of roses kinda turned me off them for my garden; but they sure are pretty!

I have a tendency to go for the green rather than flowers. I have ferns, palms, elephant ears, monsteria's, tree ferns etc.

Morning everyone. Ive woken up grumpy but think its rolled from yesterday lol

(A little about me) I'm a mechanic for a race team (and a girl) and found out our category has been kicked from clipsal next year (our home track). So I'm pretty angry about that. But thats life.

Then I get too see these beautiful roses while mine have decided to be stumps this year lol this doesnt surprise me though as I've always sucked at gardening or the dog destroys my hard work hahaha.

But TGIF cos I'm so over work. I work in logistics and its starting to get super busy for xmas lead up. Hopefully day goes quick so I can come home and hang out in the chicken coop! Who all love me now I have mealworms hahaha

Hehe I love a good eadible garden from dad and pop and a good flower garden from mum and nan! I have black fig and Fuji apple lemonade lemon Kafir lime olive tree bay tree hundred herbs chilli trees big veggie patch. But I have my roses

I love the thorned beauty. Such is life

When we moved here there was no garden and I vowed to never have roses after working at a rose nursery in WA. The spraying , pruning, dead heading and constant watering , would be enough to turn anyone off. But alas , I was weakened by ' Pierre de ronsard ' . Unfortunately as with chickens, one rose is never enough.

Btw, there is a huge market in natural remedies in rose hips.

AussieChics chuckling here. It is funny how "here she comes again, wonder what she is got in store for us now" becomes "wooo hooo here she comes again, meal worms!" or "woo hoo here she comes again, what? No meal worms?!!"

Fancy beautiful roses also ... looking at Sam's and your roses sure is a nice way to start the day; beats looking at Helpdesk tickets

Ah well, guess I should stop stalling and get it over with!

Went late night shopping last night so didnt get to close the chicks door til dark. I go in there and 2 of the big girls woke up and expected mealworms. Told em to go back to bed and gave em a scratch (clearly still sleepy cos I never get to do that Lol)

Im sure they will learn its an afternoon thing eventually

Doing some jealousy drooling at that lush green grass also! :drool

Mondari I note you mention they were 5 weeks old when you got them; how old are they now?

It is tough when they turn out to be roosters and we can't keep them :(   I have a couple of barnyard-mix bubs that I am waiting on gender; I have one I am really hoping to keep but sadly, if it is a rooster, it has to go.

You can tell us qlders our most fun for the day is checking out everyone's grass hoping one days our could show just a hint of green :lau

Thank you Sam and cwrite

The hungry heron has been back 3 times since his breakfast and each time we have spotted him and given him his marching orders; no more fish taken.  Sadly, he knows where to come now for an easy snack.

I like the predator statue/kite idea; might try that, as long as it does not scare the gals :) Either would probably blend into the surroundings much nicer than a net or wire.

I love how my man's mind works ... for the early morning, if the heron comes to visit while I am not awake to watch the monitor, he has plans of motion activated water pistols or other deterrents around the pond that will not distract from the tropical look .. it must be a challenge-thing :lau   Beware heron; hubby is on the case!  Good thing we are both animal lovers, I know whatever he does, it will not harm the heron :)

Why do I have mental images of hubby in full camo, hiding under the ferns with a water pistol? lol :lau

:lau I laugh cause I could see my hubby doing the same.
