Well stage two of reintegration of my broody and her little girl!!! Seems to be going okay so far.

The two frizzles have let her join back in with just the occasional reminder they are above her like pre broody days so I let two of the faverolles join in too. That has been a bit less smooth but it's not got to the point anyone has been hurt,think it's going to need a few scuffles so the favs know she is going to run from them and they can relax in their current flock position. She didn't make any friends standing up to them when still in full broody mode.
Today will be their first full day roaming together so fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.

That will then only leave winry who is a cranky turd at the best of times and super nasty at the moment as she has gone broody. Going to let her go back to just regular bossy boots before letting her join them.

You can't imagine how exciting it is to have normality almost in sight lol. Oh hang on maybe you can lol

I have had better weeks!

I lost Tina yesterday to an impacted crop

Not only is Spot crowing ‘Gloria’ is now also crowing and is, in fact, George.

Trying to find homes for both of them now.

So, after months of upheaval and separation, 2 x hatches etc I am going to end up with one less chicken than when I started the whole process.

Feeling pretty darn depressed right now but hopefully in a couple of days, things will improve.

On a bright note (digging deep for this one!) the four remaining gals have lots of room!

Not only is Spot crowing ‘Gloria’ is now also crowing and is, in fact, George.

Trying to find homes for both of them now.

So, after months of upheaval and separation, 2 x hatches etc I am going to end up with one less chicken than when I started the whole process.

Feeling pretty darn depressed right now but hopefully in a couple of days, things will improve.

On a bright note (digging deep for this one!) the four remaining gals have lots of room!

OMG Teila - I'm so sorry to hear about Tina, and George after all the effort you have put in. Things can only get better from here!

I have hatched both over the years but not together. My marans are pretty feathered by 3 weeks. They probably could fly now if they needed to,(though I am sure neither breed would be able to fly to far at that age) Aras are more flighty birds and marans a calmer breed so it may just be that.

Okay. Thanks, the marans don't have their wings fully feathered or any tails unlike the aras. This morning I caught Mum on top of the coop with the 5 aras and made her go back down cause it was chilly. I unlocked out and got 3/3 boys from my pure marans and I think 1/3 boys from the not pure ones. One of those certainly has a much bigger comb and wattles coming through. I kinda wish I could have a roo cause one of the pure boys is absolutely gorgeous and timid. <3 She's fine when she's free ranging so I just let them all out so they can all follow her around the yard.

In cute news, all the babies are playing a 'who can stay on Mum's back for the longest' game and it's so funny.

Hi everyone, sorry I've not been here for ages....term 4 is proving to be a doozy!

Telia, sorry to hear about Tina...I know she was very loved. There's over 1000 posts for me to catch up on (which I won't) so condolences to anyone else who has has losses, and congrats on new hatches!

Would you believe it, my Isa has gone broody AGAIN!! I don't have the facilities to be able to lock her away this time around, so what would happen if I just left her to it? Will she eventually get bored and snap out of it? I bring her out of the nesting box when I get home in the afternoons, and she quickly gets something to eat and drink, a bit of a stretch and then she's back in the box. The other two pick on her terribly, pecking at her comb....I have to tap them away with a stick!

Oh Telia, that's just like you, to try and find a bright side . So sorry about your little Tina. My favorite little bantam roo has been suffering with impacted crop but today looks more like his old self. This morning I went out to clean the coops , add wormer to the water and surface spray everything and I found a coro hatched in coronation cottage and a SLW hatching in another coop. I have 6 cockerels heading out on Tuesday , time to move everyone around.
Chin up, things will get better.
