I didn't know that about welsummers! They are on my wish list for this year. One rooster to breed with my EEs and OEs, and some hens. They seem like a good breed to have.
 
unfortunately my neighbors dont like roosrers. Makes it easier.

There is a guy here putting buff sussex over light sussex to get colour sexed chicks. Works with RIR over silver gene hens.
I finally let my new Silver laced Wyandotte in with his girls after 6 weeks of quarantine . They seem happy with him. I'm sure he is happy to be out of the ' sin bin '
 
If they could that with every breed that would work out great.

My next problem is when they start crowing I'm going to have to be watching. 3 of the blue ones shouldn't be hard to sex but 5 silkies is going to be the challenge.

If you can get some good comb and wattle pics, front and side shots, I can give you an educated guess. There is also a silkie sexing thread. Some of my silkie Roos don't start crowing till 6-8 months old. You might get lucky.
