Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

We just expanded and reinforced our pen so that my remaining 5 chooks (4 hens and Mr Rooster) will no longer be free to
roam the yard...thank you Mr Fox! I lost all 6 silkies last week

The little silkie rooster was just learning to crow
and was sounding hilarious!

With the extra area I am planning to fence off wee sections at a time and grow some greens for them to eat...seeing as there is
none in this arid land that I can feed them. I figure it will give them some natural foraging fun and they can forget the fact that
they cannot roam as they used to....

They also have some new trees and bushes to dig up and make a mess of. At least they (and their messes!) will stay out of my garden, my
house, and my paths now too! No more walking up the laneway calling for chooks who have escaped under the gate! I wonder if the
neighbours find me crazy or funny with 3 cats and 4 hens following me around!

Haha, crazy ? By the time I reach the first pen I have five ducklings , 1 momma duck, 2 Shetlands and an angora goat chasing me down for my bucket of goodies. :p

How do you know they are German?
Do they march in formation and do funny salutes?

lol that's funny, my family are German so I could get a bit offended there ;) thank god for a sense of humour!!
Our last rental house was infested with german cockroaches and despite our efforts a few made it to the new house, they breed anywhere, hinges and electrical appliances being the favourite. These are the ones that would survive the apocalypse , even exterminators can't eliminate them completely. I've just started using de in my feed bins and the poopy areas under the roosts, I've read that it can kill cockroaches too so I am thinking of putting it in a few places around the house (like under the oven etc where it can't get stirred up and breathed in) worth a try at least !

Had to share this photo I took the other day on my phone, it was lightly raining but the girls didn't want to miss their free range time, they got a bit sick of the wet so joined bub and I on the porch.

What a cutie !! Bet the chickens already know that bub is a constant source of food.
We had german roaches when we lived in Sydney. When we moved to WA they survived in the seal around the freezer door.
Whilst they say they would probably survive a nuclear blast, I've never seen one here in Tassie. Perhaps it's the cold weather, I know it scares most queenslanders away. :lau

@Teila. Looks like they had a pretty spoilt birthday :)

@birdman55 sounds like you have been very busy!!! Love the photo of the chook parade through the snow!

@Sidhe13 sorry to hear about your lost flock. Did you mean you can't free range because he came during the day?

@K Spot how is your little Hen today? Hope she makes it!

@ChristieBaww very cute :)
