Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Been having some free range time with my chooks...good for me to get out and they love it! Their enclosed run is plenty big enough with lots of trees and bushes but there is nothing like being where you aren't supposed to be!

The extra time now spent watching over them as they free range gives me more and more insight into their different personalities! I am even coming up with names for them and Stupid Mr Rooster and I are coming to a bit of an understanding based on the fact that we both want what is best for the girls.

Forgot to mention....planted some barley behind a screen in their enclosure today....fingers crossed it sprouts! And I weeded some milk thistle type plants out of the garden today and planted them in a pot. My partner thought i was nuts....I called him back to show him what was left after 10mins of chook attention! The leaves are levelled! If it grows back...yay! If not, there will be more in the garden in a weeks time...

I dosed one of their water bowls with ACV on the weekend...now they prefer that bowl....anyone else had this happen?

Yep, mine also drink the garlic water first. My girls planted a patch of silverbeet for the chooks they love it. I am soaking my next batch of barley for sprouting.

Brahmas - has anyone in here had them before?

My only Roo is a Buff Brahma and he is a gentle giant. Long story short-a few years ago I had German NH and BR Roos but they had fights. I decided to get rid of all the roos. 2 weeks later I saw a Roo walking around my coop. He came from ? We never figured out where. He was so gentle we let him stay. Named him Hobo. But, we don't have Brahma hens.

Cheers guys, I knew they were big gentle birds but didn't know what their laying capacity was like. I think I will pass on them and wait to get some Speckled Sussex eggs.

Day 21....cmon babies!!
I am sooo nervous and excited! We have the kids this weekend too so that adds to the excitement! We had a wee talk about how if the touch anything or open the lid the babies will die. Sure, a quick flick open to refill the water isn't actually gonna kill them, but with kids it's often easier to just stick to the extremes.

Had to take the cat to the vet today. She slipped on the tin fence a few days ago and cut her foot and belly. The belly wound had red streaks today...sooo not a bill i need right now but worth it. She was so good...didn't bite the vet, even with needles and thermometers being jabbed in her! And purred and smooched and walked AROUND NOT ON the keyboard while she was typing...little suck up! A big antibiotic dose and some painkillers and she is already feeling better! She punched a massive hole (with one hit) in the side of the cardboard box we had her in...the ate though the other side too. So we bought a cat cage for the return trip home...
