Neither of you should feel bad. While I have yet to buy eggs. I am getting a total of 1 a day from all the freeloaders out here.

EGGS!!

I'm feeding these slackers sardines, basmati rice, virgin olive oil AND toiling over a hot stove to get them fit to LAY bloomin eggs,
Not supporting wayward slacker chooks by FEEDING bought eggs........ Gasp!!

The eggs just help to separate the rice. My recipe is : 6 cups of uncooked rice , 4 tins of generic sardines in oil, 2-3 eggs and a tbs of granulated garlic.
I use a cheap $10 microwave rice cooker and it cooks the rice perfect everytime.
I have 2 dozen eggs ready to post on Monday but those who haven't molted are heading into molt.
Our son has put in an order for 3 doz eggs for the pistol club , would hate to disappoint .

Light is the only thing that will keep chooks laying at this time of the year.
I can keep them laying all year by using lights on timers so they get an extra hour or two of light in the mornings.

Lol will that work if they haven't even started laying?!

I'm almost at the end of my bag of grower so I planned on changing over to layer but would that be too much calcium for non laying hens? I will mix the feeds for a bit to get them used to the pellets but once the grower is gone should I add a bit more protein another way?
