Aww so cute :)

Question on isa browns, they aren't something you can breed yourself are they? So did these come from a hatchery somewhere?

We had them years ago and after having just bought my 6th carton of eggs I'm starting to lean towards maybe getting a couple next time we hatch. Maybe my memory is wrong but I'm sure we had more eggs out of 3 hatchery chickens than we get out of my 7 pretty ones sigh.

Hi guys!! Haven't been around in a while , had a world of trouble trying to log in, kept telling me it couldn't load the page. I wrote this last night and it's taken forever to actually post it.
any who, still no eggs here, pushing 30 weeks and 26 weeks respectively, no new photos but they are looking good. poor Cho had a run in with a dog the other morning, not my own for once, she lost a few feathers but you'd never know. The rest I found camping in the neighbours drive way, when they saw me Fleur came right to me with the rest cautiously following behind till they saw the coop then they couldn't back quick enough. They aren't lap birds but they know who brings the food.

In other news my husband has decided to move to Brisbane leaving me a single mum of 3 kids. Things haven't been great for a whole now so it's no big surprise but it was sudden at the same time. Right now i don't know what my future holds, the kids and I are staying in the house (which we've owned for 1 year today!) but I don't know if we will be still able to afford the mortgage now! So I've had to make the hard decision to let go of some of my animals. My dog Loki who I've had since birth is heading out to my uncles farm where he can run to his hearts content. I always wanted a chocolate border collie, always, now I have to give him up it breaks my heart but it's better for him, his mum is much more laid back and couldn't care less if I don't walk her every day, or even every week. The snakes are going, they aren't my thing so doesn't bother me, but the rats are going too, I still can't stand rats in general but I've grown attached to my guys, i think I might keep my favourite boy and one of the latest babies but we will see . The cat is already gone. No way I can give up my chooks though! I fact I've acquired 2 more, I pick them up on Tuesday, I'll have to share a pic to get opinions on breed as the lady who has them doesn't know. I've decided that since building a new coop now would be stupid I'm going to convert the old tank stand, it's destined to be removed so if we do have to sell it's no big loss compared to laying a slab and building. When I get a chance I'll take some photos and get some advice on the cheapest easiest way to predator and weather proof.

Oh my ChristieB I am so so sorry to read your news!

After 13 years my first husband decided that he was “bored with the whole marriage thing” and took off.

I am not telling you anything you probably do not already know, but your husband needs to help you out and can’t just walk away.

Having to part with your pets is awful!

If I was in a position to help out with your pets I would, but sadly we rent and the place is only small.

There may be someone who could foster your border collie until you work out what you need to do and get back on your feet.

I hope you have a good family/friend support network and I believe the mainland Aussies and funny little islanders will all have you in their thoughts and give you a pep talk when you need it

Hang in there

@ChristieB sorry to hear your news. That's sad to hear. He will still have to pay maintenance for the kids and my advice is get that in place with the child support agency ASAP as the child support agency wont chase money prior to it being registered with them. Once in the system though they monitor and chase if needed for you taking directly from their wages if needed. You can if my memory serves set it up without any agreement between you in place. They use a formula to work it out.

@ChristieB sorry to hear! Im a single mum too so if you need to vent feel free to message! Hooe you have a great support network! I don't have family where i live so its hard. But always look on the bright side!

Thank to those that gave me advice. Girls won't be free ranging till i can get in and strip the coop and run.

Couldn't grab anything today. Turned out my license was due for renewal 10 days ago... oops.. so spent arvo at motor reg and fodder was closed by the time I'd left.

Sam, 5 C is enough to get spring started properly... but I do like it slightly warmer, I must admit.

ChristieB, sorry to hear that you got your skis crossed with the hubby. I hope you can figure things out and keep it civil for the kids sake. (For those of you not familiar with the operation of skis, it is very difficult to ski if your skis are crossed. It is a common saying around here.)

It's really looking like spring is upon us, I can see loads of tiny, green new leaves coming out on bushes and trees, and it's supposed to be sunny all week so I think nature will explode into life within the next few days. At the moment it's 10C outside, and if you're in the sun you almost get sweaty. We finally took down the rest of the corrugated plastic from the run, and cleared out the straw and put in some fresh stuff.

I think it's almost warm enough to start thinking of planting carrots. I really need it to warm up properly soon, I have about 40 tomato and chili pepper plants inside and they're starting to take up quite a lot of space.
