Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Just got word on the eggs I gave to a friend to incubate - 4 are fertile and developing! Go Casanova!

She's doing such an awesome job Fancy. You should be very proud :D

Ditto.  At least this has been the case for my RIR, Faverolles and Ara's.  I don't use it as a sure fire way though.

Thanks K. :)
I've observed slower feathering in Roos with my wyandotte. I read an article about RIR , one breeder stated that all of his cockerels had a white spot in the wing tips.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Their feathers do seem to flatten out. Just come through on an angle for the 1st few cms.

My 2nd australorp laid her 1st egg today and its actually quite big. Its nearly completely round too. Poor Merry. What a way to dtart off. Her bum will smart for a few days i imagine lol. Pictured here with a bantam egg and a large araucana egg.

only sparkles left out of my aussies to start laying then i will have 3 egg powerhouses working for me. I am in love with them. Such gorgeous birds. Mine have a bit much tail but stunning nonetheless. Going to put them in with an indian game rooster when it warms up for some freezer stock thats not gangly cockerals for a change. :) sparkles is easily 60cms tall. Just a huge bird. I can't imagine what the roosters are like.

The big and the small of it.
My Bantam IG rooster loves squaring off with the young LS roos,
who are only about eight times his size. And I know who would win the fight if they ever got together.
Good news - the new Show quality LS have started laying - just waiting on the IG hens now!

Hey Satay, yeah it would be good if you could check out the wing thing next Pekin hatch; I am curious.

K Spot congrats on the fertile Casanova eggs and congrats on Merry’s first egg Deej211.

your IG boy is stunning!! And apparently very brave

Your LS roos are also beautiful!

I read a post yesterday in which the OP was woken at 01:30am by excessive screeching and the stench of skunk. She went out to find no dead hens but two injured roosters. Her Australorp and Americauna saved her hens and ducks from a skunk... the skunk was badly injured and she had to put it out of it’s misery. Her roosters are going to be OK and are getting lots of love and TLC for their wounds … clever boys!

Still only one layer at the moment .. Dusty. Getting 1 egg every day or two which is better than nothing

So .. I may have been convinced to enter a couple of my girls into a small Ag show soon - not that I think we will stand a chance at all of placing, but just for something to do and gain a bit more experience. We'll see how we go

I'll probably just enter my big blue orpington girl Betty and perhaps Squeak the dorking.

Congrats on the egg @Deej211

Ohh bugger, @Teila . I'm getting 4 a day now, thank goodness.

Rather happy so just thought I would share a poop-date ;-)

I have not had a normal poop from Carl since the end of April. I was very excited to find not only solid poops in the little cage this afternoon but a total lack of any watery or diareah or undigested grass ones as well! Still rather more yellow than normal but other than that looked normal so I am daring to hope this means we have turned the corner and are heading towards recovery!
