Will pulverise  full heads of purple garlic, boil it in shallow water,  and use it  in their drinking water. ( the white garlic is totally suspect - produced in China - under the most unsavoury of situations !! ). 

Good idea with the stocking too ... Can do that with the new water container I have.

Your welcome. No need to pulverise the heads if you are boiling them. Just remove some of the paper and chuck them in whole. I use a big boiler and add 3-4 L of water. Once it has boiled , put the lid on and let it steep overnight. Squeeze the paste out of the casings (discard casings ), mix with a spoon and pour the water into a watering can.

Most imported garlic is treated with methyl bromide a chemical that has been banned here. It is also bleached to appear nice and white. Once you have grown your own you will never buy it again.

appps ..... very much best to grow your own - or spend extra money on purchasing the purple Australian grown garlic.

White Chinese garlic is bleached - presumably to de-toxify it for Australian ( and other ) human consumption, because it is ( allegedly ) grown in human excreta manure.

Thing is, 'humanure' is apparently quite good / successful , provided it is composted correctly and under strict rules and regulations. ... Allegedly, the Chinese turf their human excreta willy-nillly to use as fertiliser ... they have no specific restrictions there. .... Maybe in the future, ( or even now ) they have or will have.

So - Chinese garlic at present, is a no-no .. - and has been referred to as being not truly fit for human consumption. YET ,,, it is still sold in bulk here in Australia ( which beggars belief, in my opinion ). .... It is also waaay cheaper than the good purple, locally grown garlic.

Have absolutely nothing against the Chinese as a race of people, but their agricultural mores leave much to be desired. .... There have been warnings about bottled crushed garlic from China as well.

Hi guys!! Been busy here as always, my husband is back in town so I managed to get a weekend to myself (well just the bub home but she's a peice of heaven) was bliss! But they trashed the house within hours of getting home :/ I'm sure I'll get the hang of this single parenting thing before they leave home (Lord please don't let me be single for the next 20 years !!!)

Adding to the madness is 6, 5 week old kittens!! Growing beautifully, so proud of my cat, she's a great mum. Ive also taken in an orphaned kitten on Monday, his mother had to be put down when he was a week old so he's been bottle fed for 3 weeks, just over 24 hours after meeting Chloe he was nursing! She just seems to know he needs a bit more attention because she's been hanging around a bit more than normal to feed. tonight I managed to introduce some solids to him. He tried to suck it up rather than lick but with most of his life with no other cats to learn from I don't expect too much, he's sweet and very people oriented but his manners are terrible even for a kitten! My hands are shredded from feeding and toileting but already noticed an improvement.

In chooky news I've just filled my third carton, granted 2 dozen had to be thrown before actually making it to a carton but I have a dozen edible eggs already! 3 eggs a day.
That one hen is still really scruffy, laying daily but looks awful ! I've been adding meatmeal to their feed to try get her protein up for feather growth, what else can I do? Just wait it out?

Interesting to say the least.

Doesn't pull too many punches either.

Buy ( or home grow ) Australian --- best bet, no matter what.

What an absolutely gorgeous story ChristieB .... and good onya for taking on the orphaned kitten as well. .... So that makes 7 kittens ? ... Much as I love kittehs to bits, I think perhaps I'd end up being carted away by the little chappies in white coats - to an institution for those with 'kitten overload'. ....

Your eggs are superb. Great that you are getting them. ... Down south here ( Victoria ) ... we wait patiently ( yawn ).

And your "scruffy" hen still laying ?... my RIR did that for a while, but has now joined the big 'moult' parade. .... Yours looks much the same as my girl - but your lady still has a bright, upright, red comb.
