Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Never heard an old wives tale with that sort of content......and I took it as an unwarranted "age" put down, uncheracteristic of this thread.

One of the criteria I applied in selecting the breed was its reputation for tolerating cold weather. From day one they have quit laying early May and will not restart till Spring kicks in. A collegue has suggested adding chilli flakes to their rice feed....not sure about that.

Like I said before I have friends of all ages from the young Kspot and lukey ;) to my neighbour ralph who is nearly 70. I am happy to be friends with anyone. Age has never been nor will ever be an issue. I get a giggle from the old timers as they like to call them selves around here and their unwillingness to believe they are ever wrong but that is as far as it goes.
Edited to add. Whilst I don't know his age (nor is that any of my business) but I do for sure know that @Ashburnham Is a slightly older member than ,myself of our group I and many other members on this thread have the utmost respect for him and his opinions as he has been breeding chickens for may years and that type of experience is priceless for any of us to learn from whether young or old.

Never was it meant as a put down Satay has and holds a lot of respect for her elders and I would say similar that my grandpa always told me "how it was in his day" about fishing and farm living and chooks especially pesky roosters always standing on the hens foot ! Lol it's where I learned to love country life. No def not intended as a slur.

Sorry you feel that way though

Thanks Sam. You do know me well :)

The chickens just came off their big molt and being winter i wasnt expecting any eggs but when i went out to feed them this morning i found this on the floor of the coop. Its a bit dirty as it was on the floor of the coop. Is this just a oops egg or is something more serious happening that i am unware of? Sorry about the picture the phone wasnt focusing properly

Hard to see in the pic KAt but I would think more and oops. Keep any eye on them though incase you see any others.

Hey kat79 I agree with suggestions so far that the icky-thing is either a lash egg or an oops egg and also to keep an eye out for more.

ChristieB congrats on the eggs and successful integration.

Thank you all for your kind comments regarding my littlies, their mum and Aunty LuLu.

Hey krista74 thank you … as it happens LuLu is hubby’s favourite and yep, she has an infectious personality and happily bounces around the place, full of the joys of spring; nothing phases her.

I had a wonderful sunny weekend in the garden with the gals, I am actually sad that it is nearly their bed time ... we all had a picnic on the deck while they shared my lunch

The nasty vine monster grabbed a hold of KiKi and was apparently not going to let go but she made a lot of noise and fought her way free .. bad vine!

Blondie managed a couple of peck-and-run's on the littlies while Cilla was not looking but nothing serious, just your garden variety pecking order. The littlies have occasionally stood their ground but more often than not it is "Muuuuuuuuuummmmmmm"!!!!

I have just arranged to borrow zorrow from the farm for a few weeks so I can try and breed her with Sebastian. Kiki looks a lot like her. I will post some pics tomorrow

We generally work to the assumption that everybody on this thread is super nice so if it reads not so it's either a typo or just got lost in translation ;-).

Borrowing a chicken do you mean? Not sure I'd be brave enough to bring another bird in like that. Or is it the same place your other birds came from?
