Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I live next to a national park and haven't seen one. We have a large creek tributary runs into our drinking water dam still none. I know our cattle dog would put them off but I walk a kilometre to train station with the nasho on the other side of it and still no fox.

When we lived in Sydney I used to go to the gym at castle hill RSL. On my way home at 10 pm I came across one running back and forth on the road as I came into north rocks. There is a band of natural vegetation on either side of the causeway and houses on both sides. The national park that we took our dogs walking in goes from the hills all the way to Newcastle and we often saw and smelt evidence of them in there.

I've never seen one in the flesh, but have still lost plenty of chooks to them both as a kid and an adult. Hubby has seen them up near our TAFE college early (5-6am) in the morning. I have heard that there are more in the cities than the wild as the garbage people drop feeds them.

Do you do this walk between midnight and 5 am? If not your likely to miss the foxes as they will be curled up asleep in thier dens

Not always the case, I've seen a fox running the fence line trying to get to lambs as they are dropped in the middle of the day. Our family have farms in Oberon and rylstone , both are cursed with foxes. When you've seen the carnage they leave behind at lambing , they tend to lose all their cuteness.

Okay, talk grit with me. I bought some grit (rock type not shell) for my cockatiel and was surprised how large it was. Bigger than I'd have thought the chooks would have used. So that made me wonder how large chooks should be getting?

I ask as I'm emptying an old fish tank full of fish tank gravel (natural not coloured) and thought rather than chucking it maybe I could just sprinkle it round the chook pen as grit?

So long as it is small enough and natural I guess you could spread it around the run. They do pick up little rocks and stones.

I'm near national park that's between Helensburgh to Cronulla They have deer. I've seen them and snakes. Big 6ft brown lol. Yes sjT I'm on the platform between 3 and 5 am it's not a pretty hour. But that's why I'm surprised.

My silkie has gone broody I think as she's hijacked the nesting box! Tried to put her in another one she won't budge not even when I put eggs in there( real ones mind you) nope does not work she still wants to be in the same nesting box.
