Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I find barley the best for sprouting, it's cheap and mixed grain sprouts at different times leaving it more inclined to rot. Feed stores should have full grain untreated barley, if not Newmarket horse dealers will. Wheat and triticale would be my next choice.

Adult birds aren't usually effected by cocci as they have usually built immunity with their age. Green poop usually means starvation. I would isolate her and monitor her feed intake.
The head hunching sounds more like trying to clear her crop. Examine her, look in her beak for any obstructions and smell her breath.
I should have asked, was there any traces of blood in that poop ?

There was no blood in the poop. I had her on my lap yesterday and her breath didn't smell, but I didn't look in her beak. She's actually looking a bit better this morning. She was in the run when I got up to let them out to free-range. The others charged out. Stampy went into the coop & contemplated the jump to the bottom stable door for ages and then managed it. She's not hunching this morning & was at the bowl with all the others when I gave them their feed soaked in hot water. I'll have another look at her this morning. I did spot a green poop under the roost & am clearing that out each morning as it's the easiest way to keep an eye on the poop spectrum. I really need a little isolation coop. Hmm...

@Fancychooklady I just had a bit of a giggle. I was looking on weather zone at the temps for the week and I saw a side story headlines where Tassie misses the winter cold blast.. I though really. Isn't winter in Tassie one continual cold blast ;);) Todays max temp for us is 15C.. I'm not a fan of those types of day time temps  :lau Last night by them is our warmest over night temp for the week at 4c.

Haha, we were just watching the weather forecast . They were reporting on the rest of Aus and the cold blast, hubby says, " what about tassie "? I said , " tassie said always cold " :lau

Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you all are staying warm and out of this horrid wind! My Saturday was spent cleaning out the coop and insulating it a bit more in preparation for the cold snap.
I also wormed everyone while I had the opportunity.
Just over a week to go for Whoopi and her eggs, as well as Squeak who is a couple of days behind her. Both are sitting on 3 eggs each, but I'm thinking of giving Whoopi Squeak's chicks when they hatch as I don't have the room to separate them both.
I know that seems a bit cruel to Squeak, but I'd rather have the chicks safe in the brooder box than out with all the others with the potential of being trampled or pecked to death.

Kspot I'm sure they would raise them together if you kept both hens in with them,
I've been thinking about my coop but I have no idea how I could insulate it :/

K spot...

Some hens get alone well together and don't harm each others chicks. Are they sharing a nesting box? If so they should be fine.
Once chicks hatch it maybe hard to change their mother because they imprint on the first thing they see and from my past experience some chicks will seek out that hen even when you've put them under another one which excepts them. If you're going to give chicks to the other hen I'd suggest do it now.. as long as their hatching date isn't too long after the other eggs

Well I am a happy girl. My bpr squatted when I fed them and I thought great. Eggs soon. Checked the nest box after filling up feed. And

400

Bad news from my place today. I lost my 3 little marans chicks over night. The brooder light blew and I had forgot to put back up bottles in for them :he. Sorry little ones. R.I.P :hit

No they aren't sharing a nest box. Whoopi is in the brooder box alone and Squeak is brooding in one of the main nest boxes - she hasn't been separated from the others. I guess I'm just being overly cautious here. I don't think I'd put them in the same brooder pen as it's only small and Whoopi is a tiny Silkie while Squeak is a full size Dorking. I'd be afraid Squeak would bully Whoopi, plus the chicks are going to be tiny.
