Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Thankyou :) the new set up seems to be maintaining temp, it's too high at the moment but it's maintaining! I might get a lower wattage bulb tomorrow or a dimmer switch if I can find one in town. Haven't even looked at humidity as the thing I had doesn't seem to be working.

Temp too high had a strong chance of killing the eggs, if it's more than 1c high. It can be up to 5c low and that will just delay the hatch rather than kill them.

Yeah it's still sitting at just over 40 with extra ventilation so I'm going to get a lower watt bulb tomorrow, I'm not putting the eggs in till it's perfect. If I could figure out the thermostat on the snake box I'd steal that but I'll just have to wait for my new one to come

:thumbsup
That's the way to go - get it working right first.

Please indulge me while I share some pics ;) My little girls turn 19 weeks tomorrow and for 'mutts' I think they turned out quite pretty. Crystal: KiKi .. I love the 'flame' look around her neck: With mumma, Cilla: KiKi: And threw one in of Auntie Blondie having a siesta in the shade:
Your girls always look so pretty Teila. Like you have just washed and blow dried them ready for a show :love

So gorgeous teila, grown into beautiful girls :)

Today I have pulled my homemade incubator apart and started over. Warming up now, if all goes well I'll put those eggs in tomorrow. If not I've ordered a janoel10 off eBay plus another hydrometer. I've got like 3 thermometers in there, I think it needs a fan to circulate the heat better will have to get one tomorrow

When's the earliest I would see signs of life? I don't want to run it for 3 weeks if they aren't even fertile! I'm sure the first few would have been but there's no way to know when they were mated last if at all (though there were multiple roosters in the same pen as the hens so you would assume one of them was doing the job) plus having been in the fridge a week, the odds aren't on their side. All the research I've been doing has me excited to try again :)

Aras are quite easy to candle. Check at about 10 days and you should be able to see development. Down load the ihatch app its great at showing you what to look for on what day.

I use snake thermostats on my brooder. So easy set and forget.
