Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Good morning everyone!

Had a successful day at the Ekka, with some minor setbacks. The breed on before us, the Boston Terriers caused a bit of a dilemma where one dog attacked another so there had to be a full blown inquiry and investigation which badly delayed proceedings much to the disappointment of the public there to watch as well as us exhibitors.

Oh well, that's dog shows for you. Yahtzee went on to win his class.

However his sister went one better and was awarded Puppy of Breed which was wonderful! Here's some pics of Yahtzee and myself

I come home on the weekend to find my sweet boy Casanova is not well. It seems he has eaten some rodent faeces and it's really knocked him around with bad bacteria as well as thrush. I'm treating him with everything I have at the moment as given to me by some lovely local chicken breeders and following their advice. I hope he pulls through.
I will have to get some baits out - does anyone know of any that don't secondary poison?

They have internal traps....The mouse goes in and never comes out. We tried small hav-a-heart traps for our rat problem, but have not caught any. The problem comes and goes here. Depending on the weather, and it's definitely worse in the winter!

Last winter we made one of those 5 gallon bucket traps. I don't know how to upload stuff from the net. I'll see if I can find an image for you.

Tee hee TickinChicken

appps I hope you beat the fruit fly and get to complain about excess fruit

Fruit Bats and Crows are the problem here; they strip anything! I gave the girls some watermelon on the weekend and spent the majority of my time trying to keep the Crows off it! Glad you got your lawn back.

Tee hee Fancy, 50 was a couple of years ago for me and yep, I am normally up around the 06:30am mark … 4am was pushing the limit just a little.

Knowing that hubby was going away, I saved a few movies on Foxtel that I wanted to watch again .. Dances With Wolves, Master and Commander, The Shining, The Birds, Fargo and The Postman Always Rings Twice .. got the Peanut M&M’s out last night and sat down at 7pm to watch 3 hours of Dancing With Wolves, thinking that I would sleep really well after getting up at 4. Think again, went to bed at 10 and tossed and turned for 2 hours .. also, Syba [cat] is missing his Dad and decided that trying to push me out of bed might be fun or, better yet, sit in the hallway howling because his Dad is not home!

Last time hubby went away, when he got back I told him “next time you go away you are either taking me or Syba with you .. do not leave me home alone with him again!” Leading up to this trip, I kept jokingly asking Syba if he had his little suitcase packed because he was going on a trip with his Dad. Starting to think I should have done that .. lol

Devinandfeather your Orps are beautiful!

Congrats K Spot … love the pictures!
Sorry to hear about Casanova. As Outpost JWB has suggested, I have heard good things about those 5 gallon bucket mouse traps .. lots of reports on how well they work.

Well done ! Yep dogs fight, horses kick etc ......... I always find it funny when people see one horse kick another and automatically label it ' dirty ' . So long as it didn't ruin your day. We have tried the rat zapper, only killed 1 rat. Apparently rats are very smart, once they witness one of their buddies getting fried they won't go near the thing. Secondary poisoning is a risk in more than one way. The chooks might get to the baits or the carcass of a poisoned rat. Not sure what you are treating him with but a dose of Epsom salts or activated charcoal will flush his system of toxins. :)

Very cool Ash! Hubby really really wants some light sussex :). But I'm impressed with our little australorps laying so thinking I'll hatch those again.
