I've heard olive oil is good. Try getting her to drink some and apply to her vent. You can try massaging her to encourage the egg along but you have to be really careful not to break the egg inside her when doing so

Congratz on your new additions.:weee I am lucky out of all of mine that free-range I only have a very determined Australorp that likes to hide eggs and sit. This season she has taken to laying just outside the front door of the house so I can grab them as soon as she lays.

You're lucky. Mine move their laying spot after about a week of me removing the eggs so I'm constantly looking for where they've relocated to, the dogs are good at finding nests I miss but as you can tell some chickens seem to out smart us and get their way lol

Wow busy weekend had by all, I didn't get on at all and had 3 pages to catch up on!!
I moved the chicks outside on Friday, they are about 4 weeks old and almost fully feathered, I just have a black heat bulb for them at night as it's still quite cool, my heat pad set up didn't work properly out there. Took them one night to get used to the new set up but seem settled now, the big girls are very interested in the babies when they are let out, spend a fair bit of time hanging around the little coop before going out to scratch in the yard. Cho can see them from her pen and she was not happy at all at first but seems to be used to them now she's realised they can't get out and over to her side of the outdoor area.

Saturday we had my baby girls first birthday party! She turned 1 on the 6th and her cast came off on the 9th. Was a beautiful day here and the chookies revelled in the resulting feast afterwards, they'll be fat as fools in all the half eaten peices of cake left by the kids.

Without the 2 black chooks my flock looks so strange. But everyone is happy and healthy, getting 5-6 eggs a day from the 7.

You will need to sit down , lay her on your lap and wearing a disposable glove , do an internal examination. With a little luck you might be able to reach the egg.
If it is further up the chamber , you will need to bath her in Epsom salts and warm water, get yourself comfortable and massage towards the vent. An Epsom salt flush may also help , dissolve 1/2 teas in a few Mls of water and syringe it into her beak , being careful not aspirate. Some molasses in the drinking water is also a good flush. Unfortunately if you have noticed oversized eggs recently one may have cracked inside her as the larger the egg , the thinner the shell.

Thank you..
I tired the epson bath and i was doing the olive oil to help her, massaged her,i even gave her yougart. I was extremely gental and did an internal, the egg was fingertip to first knuckle. But at the end she was so weak, not eating, constantly sleeping, she passed away early this evening.

Thanks Anniebee

We collared Speckles out ISA Brown (sex link) rooster tonight. He's not as pleased but he seems to be doing well day 1 into day 2 with out the dominate rooster, still very gentle with the hens not overly rough with the hens. If the collar works well be able to keep him which were really hoping. We have some very sleepy hens. I am up very early and they dont come coming down to make noise or even eat till almost 9 or 10 am.

:3

I do so hope that the collar works for your Speckles. Interesting that your hens don't front the day, until later in the morning, but then my Mindy does similar ( as mentioned ). !! The other two beat down the coop door to get out from about 6 a.m. onwards !! ... On wet days I simply ignore them. They can stay 'indoors' and eat / drink to relieve the boredom.

Better than have them caked in mud ( which peculiarly - they seem to love ) ?? .... They really can be dirty little beggars at times. !!

Cheers ----

Me too! Our Bog (black chicken m) comes down early makes no noise. We have a double level cage. It's almost finished we currently finish the extended run so currently we have a large dog run we attach to it but when the runs finished they be able to really go in and out as the please and the non run part is wired all around

Fancy I think you were right she had been giving me big eggs just before winter. Cleaning up her box tonight i found patches of what looks to be egg but no shell.
