Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Fancychooklady thanks for posting this info. This evening when we were getting the chicks back into the brooder from their grass area, I knelt in some of their poop and my son got some on his tee shirt from the chicks feet. Normally I would have rinsed them out straight away but got caught up on an important phone call. The poop has since dried into the clothes. I am thinking about putting them into a wash on their own with Cannestine rinse in the rinse cycle then washing them again with the next normal load of clothes. Will this be safe? Should I do them in a hot wash? Any advice is welcome :)

Hand washing is very important when handling animals. Normal wash for animal soiled clothes , separated. Poultry should not have access to the entry areas of your home, and the safest way to ensure that the ' nasties ' aren't entering your home , is to adopt a ' shoes off ' policy and have a special pair of chook shoes for entering the coop and collecting eggs. Raising chickens is a great experience for children , there are just a few hygiene rules that need to be followed as salmonella can be fatal, especially in little ones. :)

Yep I have seperate 'chook shoes' lol. Warm water is of course always going to be better at getting rid of bacteria but up to you as to what you use. I would always wash that seperately.

Sorry appps i have no experience to weigh in and offer suggestion, hopefully the others have it covered :)

Well done on the horse comps again fancy! Ur daughter and boys really do do amazingly!

Supposed to have bootcamp at 6 this morning but i needed sleep sooo bad! So i skipped it. Will go to gym soon instead. Can hear my roosters right now telling me what they think of my sleep in! Better get up and do the chooks and plants i guess..

Yay! Candling tomoro! Just cant come around fast enough

I have a 10 kg horse rug washing machine, which I might add has been very busy since they got home. I use canestan to prevent bacteria being transmitted between horses. Ringworm, Queensland itch and rain scald are rampant at competitions.
The show season is about to go into full swing , so they get a weeks rest . Hubby is juggling work and an international navy exercise , no rest for the wicked.

This came up in my Facebook feed. Though it was interesting after the recent washing discussions.

AUBURN, ME (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Maine toddler died after his parents say he contracted E. Coli at a county fair.

Twenty-month-old Colton Guay passed away Monday after contracting HUS or Hemolytuc Uremic Syndrome. His family says he got it after being exposed to E. Coli at the petting zoo at the Oxford County Fair in Maine.

The state's health commission did not confirm the connection, but we do know that Colton was one of two toddlers who contracted HUS in Maine and both went to that petting zoo.
