Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Anniebee, it is like watching the grass grow, you see a little bit come up and you go " NO, go back where you came from". So far I'm only sure of one hen because the little welsummer has eyeliner, and I read that welsummer girls have eyeliner. If all three of the others turn out to be boys, that will be disasterous for her to be a lone hen having to be put out with all the big old nasties.

Foxes like most carnivores carry all kinds of bacteria in their mouth, you need to disinfect the wound and start her on a course of antibiotics. Salmonella poisoning has very similar symptoms .

There is also some debate as to whether or not foxes carry toxoplasmosis .

Thanks - good point about the bacteria. I'll get her some antibiotics - I did clean the area and applied antiseptic powder.

I understand from my meat works days that toxoplasmosis is confined to your fine state. It is not in Qld. last I heard. And I bet foxes do carry the parasite.

I'll let you know how she goes - if she didn't have such a good appetite I would give her no hope.

Thanks everyone - for the kind words and advice regarding the fox and the injuries.

I'm actually going to relocate them to another property for a while. I will only bring them back when they are safe.

Cheers

I think you must be confusing toxoplasmosis with something else. There are over 200,000 human cases reported worldwide . People generally get it from coming in contact with cat poop, in the garden or handling kitty litter ,especially dangerous for pregnant woman. Cats transmit it amoungst our wildlife. I know a lady at Nowra that was diagnosed with it back in the 90's.
