And cocci strikes again. Had heaps of rain lately. Just got the new off ground chick pens sorted yesterday but was too late for an ara and a polish chick.and possibly an ara pullet and a fw maran cockerel. Im treating both with slim hopes for success. :-( i hate the wet...

Sorry to hear that. One good thing about living in the driest place on earth is I haven't had to deal with cocci. I'll keep everything crossed that chickens recover. ::fl

Grit for the chicks. Is there anything in chick starter or now I'm giving them a little grass time do I Need to add some? They aren't really able to get to the dirt just the grass blades and anything else they can get their beaks on sigh.

I may not be to helpful as my chicks are on the very brown at times grass here but I have never used grit for them. I just use a good quality starter and they all seem to do well that way.

The little one in the wing was like, oi what's going on ?

The partridge silkies that had their eggs taken off them when I was in hospital , stuck at it and managed to hatch one out this morning. Neither of them have been anywhere near a rooster for at least 40 days.

Hey Deej211 sorry to hear about your Cocci troubles.

appps, sorry, can’t answer the grit question, all my bubs have been raised by mumma in the run with lots of available dirt.

Meeka3 I will leaving the sexing of your little ones to the experts but will just add they sure are cute!

Wow Fancy, beautiful pictures! So adorable!

I have another question …. When my snow pea stragglers have been harvested I thought I would just drag the container out of the stealth vegie garden and let the girls pick away at the leaves .. it is OK for them to eat them?

Yes, mine have access to the vege patch , they go round the outside picking anything they can reach. They also love it when the pea straw sprouts.

Cool .. thank you :) Once the Snow Peas have finished, it makes much more sense to let the girls eat the plant, rather than throw it in the compost.

What are your thoughts on tomato plants? I have read that chickens should not eat them but I know mine have in the past.

I currently have to make sure that I have no chickens following me when I duck down the side of the house to check the vegies
