Hi guys haven't been back on since the chicks hatched, I've been a bit low the past couple weeks then was sick on Thursday night, my depression saw an opportunity and came to kick it up a notch, stupid cow that it is. More anger than "poor sad me" stuff, but it's exhausting just the same.
Chicks are doing awesome, I couldn't stand padmas desperation so I let her in yesterday and both mummas have been looking after the chicks, though I think Padma is still a little in egg mode as I found her up in the nest box away from everyone today. Maybe she just needed a break, I sure could use one, even my baby girl is wearing on my patience :/ the boys... Well let's just say I'm pretty ****** about the student free day for qld schools today, enough whinging, I came to check if @RodneyRooster had chicks yet!! Well well!?? It's so hard to just sit back and wait isn't it lol. Doesn't matter what my girls think there'll be no more chicks till next spring here.
And cocci strikes again. Had heaps of rain lately. Just got the new off ground chick pens sorted yesterday but was too late for an ara and a polish chick.and possibly an ara pullet and a fw maran cockerel. Im treating both with slim hopes for success. :-( i hate the wet...
Look at these little chickadees, enough to melt the coldest heart.

little fw maran boy passed today. Poir little guy. He was the least effected too. Marans are a pain in the butt to keep alive. :-(Sorry to hear that. One good thing about living in the driest place on earth is I haven't had to deal with cocci. I'll keep everything crossed that chickens recover. :![]()

Thanks Teila, it's a close up pic of one of the leghorn pullets. All the 3/4 leghorn pullets have these brown and ginger feathers near their head and upper bodies, with lighter feathers towards the back half and tail. All of them that is, except Zachery Quack who is pure white.
I thought I should change the avatar now that we are "out of the brooder" and officially "Chilling with my peeps"
When we have had "numerous" repeat broody hens in the past we have used a 'broody cage' (I actually used it for a brooder for the chicks when they got bigger).
The hen was put in it for about a week with food water and a small shelter, but no hay, bedding or dark corners (and especially no eggs!). She was still in the chook yard and the others could all see her. Worked every time. Have you tried something like that with Cilla?
