Good morning Friends

RodneyRooster yep, so much happens in a week around here! Wonderful to read that integration of Vonte & Co was smooth. No such luck at Bambrook Bantams, home of the prima donna princesses where any newbie is seen as possible competition for the spotlight

Sorry to read about Snow’s not so successful attempt though

locknest4 I have not had to cull a chicken [or chick for that matter] and do not think I could. Luckily, even though my Vet is not an Avian Specialist she will [and has] euthanized for me when all hope is lost. She is just down the road and did not charge me when I took a badly injured chick.

Anniebee thank you for the suggestion about keeping GodCilla inside, I am not too sure how sleepy and docile she would be with two cats trying to break down the door to wherever I put her. Still, it would take her mind off being broody

Aaaaw satay I am so sorry to read about Patsy’s little one

How sad for her and you but as Fancy mentioned, at least she is OK and can try again. Good news on Zeus though

I know it is probably my fault for not leaving GodCilla in containment 24/7 and leaving her in the flock where temptation looms but I do believe that the previously mentioned jumping on backs and pulling of combs may not be a sign of hormonal aggression but more of a ‘come on .. lay an egg so that I can sit on it!’.

This morning Cilla was quite happily scratching around the run, grooming on a perch, having breakfast etc, not the slightest bit interested in the opened nest boxes. Crystal, however, was in the nest box laying her egg. I go inside, make coffee, go back outside .. no Cilla! For Pete’s sake, this chicken can smell an egg at 100 paces!

So, I peeled her off the egg, plonked her in the run again, took the egg inside, went back outside and she was trying to hatch the egg indent in the straw

‘What we’ve got here is failure to communicate’ … . Root march back to solitary with a little baseball glove and baseball .. Cool Hand Cilla!

Morning all. Well the shearer was a no show so at 6pm the vet came out and gave patsy a shot . At just before midnight she delivered a little boy which unfortunately didn't make it. He looked fine maybe a little small but other than that I don't know. I guess some just aren't meant to make it. Bit sad for patsy to go through all that and not have a bubby for all her efforts.

Oh.... sorry to hear that

So sad to hear the little one didn't survive. Patsy will resume her daily life, most likely better than you will. ... they all seem so more accepting than we are, of sad outcomes.

Patsy will have another bub one day .... it's great news that she is healthy and ok ...

Cheers .....

Ok my last wormer hasn't worked and so I've gone with this one as I found a tiny thread worm - ICK - my big girl is 3.8 kg and littles are 3.4kg how much do I give ! My brain can't or plain refuses to work this out

It's an ' off label ' product , not recommended for use in food producing birds. But here is the dosage as recommended by their vet.

No show? Wont be using him again.. ohhhh so sorry to hear that. As some have said before, positive is that patsy is still in good health, she will be more experienced for the next if it happens.

Im glad fancy replied to this as although im great with numbers i couldnt work the bloody thing out either! Lol.

Ok so back up on that failure of snow's... Went out there tonight (was too late last night when i finally got the time) with my egg carton ready to remove the eggs. Took my candling torch as i figured i should at least be able to tell where they got to. Anyway started trying to lift her off a few with the board i used last time - my arms werent ready for a beating from her beak! And she was very reluctant to move, kept trying gently until i heard some chirping! Whaaaa??! We have life! Only sounded like one or two chirping and im sure i wont have the success rate we had with Miss Vonte but hey! Her hard work has finally paid off! Im so happy that all her hard work isnt for naught!

So i didnt try any longer, she wouldnt budge a bit and didnt want to distress the chicks or have her squish them. Once i see her out n about ill go check out the situation. Ive been at work all day and will be again tomoro but ive got all of wednesday off if i cant do something tomoro morn or evening.

Yay!!! Go snow go :) hope shes been out teaching them stuff today, food bowl is untouched.

Haha @Teila the attempt with Cilla is useless at best :p

Thanks Fancy. I don't mind withholding eggs. This was actually recommended by way of sale from NSW Hen rescue web page shop.

I thought to try some thing different from the pig one and other two normal ones I rotate.

More reading that I haven't time for ATM might be in order.
