Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

thanks! And everyone else who has made similar comments :) they run the place now lol
Yep! We dont do halloween but apparently its huge in quensland and the northern states.
Sorry to hear that. Maybe she wasnt getting to food and water? Cant wait for the pics :)

Yes i lock mine up just after it hits dark. Then let them out as soon as im up and have given the kids their breakky which is normally 6-630. 7 today! :-D lol.

Well after i had said for the first week there was no pecking order initiation with miss vonte and her chicks it has started up in the last couple days. Straight back to how it was. Miss Vonte has a go at the lower 2 if theyre getting too comfortable eating hers and the chicks food. All the chicks are automatically at her position in the order. Scarlett is always top but when I feed them in the mornings Scarlett is always too busy trying to find a new laying spot with haste so she doesnt take part haha.

Well Snow definitely isnt the mum that miss vonte is.. she and the chicks stayed outside last night.. was worried as i couldnt shut them in but they survived. Obviously she has deserted the other eggs already so seems those 8 will not be joing us. Ill let her out to the big area with the others today so they can move on and hopefully spend the night INSIDE with the other chooks.

A friend has also had a lot of foaling issues and has been hand feeding and (drugging for lack of a better word - dont know what theyve been giving it) also trying to get other mares fostering. So i hope all goes well with urs @Fancychooklady.

sounds like crazy storms! Weve had mostly lovely weather. Stay safe x

Thanks. This is quite common in mares , the placenta starts to tear away and bacteria will multiply bringing on a premmy foal,or worse still,a stillborn.
Early intervention with antibiotics can help to maintain the pregnancy. We have a wonderful equine vet , so if anything can be done , we trust him completely.

Good morning Friends :frow

*Sigh* working on site today … wonder what my chances are of today’s meetings being cancelled; pretty slim I think ;)

RodneyRooster those pics are gorgeous .. I love the look on Snow’s face in that first one .. “Step away from my babies!”

Anniebee When GodCilla is Cilla she is the sweetest, calmest, most adorable feathered beach ball.  Total transformation when broody.

My gals go to the roost by themselves and because the run is fairly secure, the small coop door [bantam sized] is not closed so they can let themselves out in the morning; only into the run though, free range is always supervised.

ChristieB I am so sorry to read of your loss :(

satay I am pleased Patsy seems to be over her loss.  I have noted your 8 days for GodCilla’s return and do hope you are wrong

Fancy I hope your mare and her foal are OK and also those involved in the accident.  My gals are not particularly fond of the traffic helicopter that buzzes over Sandgate Road most afternoons.

We were lucky to only catch the edge of the storm, lots of noise and some wind but nothing like what Fernvale copped.

The first year we lived in this house, some neighbourhood children appeared at the door trick or treating .. they looked so cute and I felt so bad that I did not have anything for them.

I was prepared the next year and reminded hubby to pick up some treats on his way home because it was Halloween to which he said “If I had known you were going to do that, I could have carved a pumpkin” [Hubby is American].

So, this year, not only will we have treats, we will have the carved pumpkin also. I will share a picture when it is done.

I was thinking about the whole hard-to-break-broody thing and GodCilla.  Cilla has had three hatches and her first was the first time she went broody.  She is a wonderful mum and seems to love every minute of it.

Blondie has had one hatch and while she was a good mum, did not seem to love every minute of it.  Blondie is not as bad as Cilla to break.

KiKi has been the easiest to break and has never been a mum.

I wonder if anyone notices that the hardest to break broodys in their flock are ones that have experienced motherhood?

The good news .. Cilla is still Cilla and does appear to be broken.

Glad to hear you weren't affected by the storm. Unfortunately the lady died enroute to the hospital. :/

Rodney, Fancy and Satay thank you. I usually do wear the face mask and protective glasses, but got lazy and didn't when I was raking and shoveling in soil into the 'Chicken Buffet/Green feeder'.

I have definately learnt my lesson and will be wearing the mask and glasses 100% of the time from now on when working in the chook yard!

I was on multiple antibiotics with the ear infection and really don't want to go on them again as they lower my immune system so much. I teach young children and am exposed to heaps of bugs? Viruses, etc. I'm going to give my nose another week to sort itself out before Goin to the doctors (I hope!).

So today I found out that you are never too old to learn. Got my , obviously otherwise occupied, teenage daughter to select a dozen DWArF English box out for me at the nursery. Planted them all yesterday , then found out today they aren't DWARF.
Note to self, do not be lulled into a false sense of security , even after spelling it out for a teenager and saying ' do you think you can do that ? ' . Double check everything.
Jobs for tomorrow, 1: dig up newly planted hedge.

Lesson in life - Never OVER-estimate the 'listening skills' of teenagers
