The shearer turned up, Yes hubby is still gloating that I told you he would. I booked the man via text so not sure how the thinks he knew he would turn up

. He is from a farming property out west and is studying at uni down here. From what I can work out he is that busy with requests for a shear that he ran out of time last weekend. He didn't look much older than 20 but i'll give him this he could shear a sheep well. Under 30 mins all 3 were done. So calm with the sheep too and handled my big ram Tyson well.
Above pic is bel looking suitably unimpressed with her shear

and below Patsy after.

Bless their little hearts ... they are now cooler for the summer. Sounds like the shearer is very very good - if he is so snowed under with work --- and he handled your ram well - not always an easy thing to do. Maybe rams get obnoxious because they are afraid that important 'parts' might be mistakenly taken off by the shearer ???

Good photos' and glad that Patsy is doing well back with the flock.

Cheers ........

Thanks for the info about spammers etc. .... I won't go rummaging around to look at Chinese / Korean writing anymore. But it sure is interesting.

Fancy ... I do get all the tabs on the monitor screen, and can access all for BYC .... so don't really miss out on any information if I want it. Thing is, do I want to follow umpteen different threads ? Being a glutton for information, I could spend 24/7 on here exclusively. So I stick to the one subscription ... which is this one.

Used to follow the Araucana thread, but was told in no uncertain terms that 'our' Australian Araucanas, are not 'true' Araucanas .... "so there - nah nah nee nah nah" --- kind of attitude. Brits got similar serves. Some people were kinder though. Gave it up as not something I could follow, or wanted to.

I don't go much at all for the U.S. side of things anyway ... they are certainly quite different to us in their chicken raising methods, breeds, weather considerations, feral animals, and general opinions etc.

Don't think I speak their language, frankly - or they don't speak mine.

Cheers ......

Several people commented on the tornado in Strathmerton today. It must have been a real shocker, from the looks of it. Can only hope the poor residents deal with it well, and don't have to totally demolish their homes because of it. ( there was a suggestion that might have to be the case ).

I too, do not remember the word 'tornado' being used when I was a kid. We had willy-willy's and water spouts --- and severe damaging storms, but most likely have picked up the jargon from America --- and anything that rips off rooves etc., are now called tornadoes. ?

But they have been more prevalent in Victoria, these past 5 years or so.

One touched down in an eastern suburb a few years back - tore up a good part of the median strip planted with established trees in Boronia, and damaged houses in the vicinity, at its edge. Bro-in-law and family very near there had a birds eye view of the whole thing - and its noise. They did not suffer any damage at the time, but their neighbours a short way down the street, did.

America has hurricanes, we have cyclones. Am awaiting the day that we refer to our cyclones as hurricanes, using once again the Americanised description of these events.

And yes, the severity of these things here, might well be as a result of the climate changing. Scary stuff to contemplate.

Yeah I've experienced that ' everything is better in the U.S. ' mentality on other sites. Yet I have made some good friends that PM on a regular basis. I was more referring to the educational articles, some are quite interesting. :)

Good morning Friends

Can’t say I have experienced or remember any tornados but I had a very close call with a freak storm/mini instant cyclone while living on a yacht and sailing up the West Australian coast. To this day, the eerie calm beforehand is probably the most unnerving thing I have experienced.

A few years back there was something similar to a tornado in Deniliquin; took our friends’ large trampoline from their back yard, over the house and deposited it in the front yard .. scary stuff!

If it is quiet at work and not much happening in here, I lurk in the ‘unanswered’ view for a few reasons. While I am not always of much help, replying with something bumps the post back up the queue where it hopefully catches the attention of someone more experienced.

As you have experienced, I can be a bit wordy and prefer to answer questions with as much detail as possible and find that by the time I finish wording my reply in New Posts, 6 other people have already covered most of the points I had

So, if the post has not been answered for a couple of hours or days, less chance of word wastage and most importantly, the OP does not feel ignored.

So, the Divas did not wake me up as early this morning and were not so patiently awaiting breakfast in the front run so the invisible monster appears to have moved on. Sadly he did not take KiKi’s invisible eggs with him and she is pancaked on the empty nest until I am positive everyone has finished laying and can block off the nest boxes.

MELBOURNE CUP DAY - what's your plans for today? What's your tip for the race!

I'm off to the local racetrack to stand in the rain, oh joy lol. Hopefully I win something to make it worthwhile, mind you as I only ever bet $5 it will need to good odds to make up for standing wet all day!

Hope you have a great day appps.. I like to watch the race but never bet as my horse will either come last, get scrapped at the last minute or something horrid will happen. I do pick a horse at home and then have a giggle at now I have jinxed the poor thing. So my pick is BIG ORANGE.. Save your money and don't bet on that one :lau

Ha, ha- better not show my hubby this comic! My 14 yr old just looked at it over my shoulder and said "Huh, I don't get it"

Not doing any Melbourne cup lunches today - going to weight watchers instead. Will probably be a quiet meeting with everyone else 'lunching'. anniebee I think you're right about the Americanisation of our terminology. I remember willy - will Y's causing damage. Now they seem to call them mini tornadoes.
