im guessing by frilkies u mean what ive always known to be sizzles lol. Thats awesome, ur an sa poster arent u?

I just checked ur profile, should have done that first lol. Are u planning on keeping them? I want some frizzles!! :-D was planning on doing that next season but if ur selling them...?

Hi All,

Haven't had much time to post but have been reading and enjoying everyone else's posts. Sorry to hear that a number of people have lost some of their chooks and roosters.

I Went to clean the chicken coop yesterday and was just about to shovel the first pile of poop and wood shavings when I realised I didn't have a face mask on! Remembering that no face mask last time I was shovelling stuff in the chicken coop, is probably what contributed to a bad case of sinus infection (and current course of antibiotics), I marched back to the garage and popped one on.

Anyways I was down to the last bits and about to sweep them up, when I remembered someone on this thread mentioning using a blower vac to clean their coop up with. So back to the garage and hauled out our old vacuum and used it instead of the broom. It did a brilliant job, so thanks to whoever suggested it!!

Used a can of woollies surface spray (as suggested by fancy chook lady) to treat coop and perches with again and there wasn't a mite in sight. Thank goodness :)

Got a shock though When I went to get some new wood shavings out of the storage box I made a few years ago out of corrugated metal sheets, to find a fat, sleek little mouse right in the middle of the wheat bag! It had tunnelled in through the bottom and chewed out all the polystyrene foam and silicone that I had blocked the holes with! Then had partied and pooped all over the wheat and scratch mix too! As soon as we clapped eyes on each other it scampered away through one of the holes it had made!! So Will have to get a trap for it as a bit worried about using poison near the chooks. All the wheat, etc went into the bin :(

I was told that there is a difference between frilkies and sizzles but I'm not sure. If it's a rooster your after I should have a spare by March. I want to work toward olive egging sizzles and frilkies.

Good morning,

Some great stories over the weekend, thanks everyone one. RodneyRooster 8.15 you're kidding?

Hey, AB haven't chatted for too long. The bird is definitely a crow the white is near the shoulders and not as much as in your photo. It lives with crows, caws like a crow, steals eggs like a crow.....I'll take a photo and post it. We do have currawongs here. I haven't seen them around my home but I have seen many in the CBD. They live in the trees planted on the side of the roads. It always amazes me how adaptable they are when I hear there call in a concrete jungle.

Update on the two rescued eggs.

My lavender aracauna that was cheeping inside the egg didn't make it. She never pipped and had been silent and motionless for a long time. I couldn't help myself - I opened it up and it was too dry. Shame - I had had that do I, do I not intervene feeling. The easter eager though was out Sunday morning and still wet. I took her out to the hen but she pulled it out and pecked it. Poor Cageny has been traumatised. I'll try again later. I hope she takes it. I couldn't try last night because of storms.

Now I'm wondering what to do with "her" today to ensure the cat doesn't eat her. I'm not set up with brooders. "She" is under a lamp but if I cover "her" box to protect "her" the heat won't get in. I guess "she'll" have to sleep in my locked bed room. "She" has won me over already .

Good morning Friends

Anniebee thank you for the tip … next time Cilla goes GodCilla I might have to research something calming .. actually, I might as well start now; probably only got 8 to 11 eggs or 4-6 weeks
wink.png

Yep, I said “next time” .. that one extra day [yesterday] seems to have done the trick with both of them. Cilla is not bashing anyone up this morning and even though the nest boxes are open for business, both her and Blondie are sitting on the external perch having a post breakfast preen
clap.gif

So with KiKi, Cilla and Blondie all recently being broken, Dusty and LuLu who have never been broody and Crystal who has not shown any signs of being a broody [yet] .. I might have a peaceful month or so

RodneyRooster you have probably mentioned before and I am sorry if you have, bad memory here .. what are you plans for the roosters?

sjturner79 good luck with the hatch! I confess to never having heard of “Frilkies” and yep, wonder if and how they differ from Sizzles?

Locknest4 it sure is a nice feeling when the coop is nice and clean and both it and gals appear to be bug free. Sorry to hear about your wasted wheat
sad.png

MyHaven yep, last night’s storm put a stop to many plans I think; the light show was amazing though. I am sorry this has not been the best hatch. Your little one is so cute though and I hope you have better luck introducing her to Cagney.
