… very exciting!

Tee hee, yep, I am with satay, you must have some good hay!

satay your 03:30am shower must have been the blue blob I saw near us at 04:45am. Humidity is not too bad at the moment here and it is still very overcast .. hopefully it stays that way.

Maybe my project on my Christmas Holidays might have to be to try and rig up an easier way to add and remove the covers

So these are my babies in their preteen years so to speak, I'm thinking that one of my Blue Australorps is a Roo but I'm not sure about the rest. Any guesses that might be more educated than mine? The Blue and Gold Laced chicks are all about 4 weeks old. I got them all at the same time as day olds. The white chick in the last photo was the sole chick my broody managed to hatch out of 10 eggs and it is about 6 ish weeks. Group Shot Pingu, who I am hoping is a hen cause I love the cheeky lil ratbag. Roger, because my nephew was visiting when they hatched and said that it must be roger whether its a boy or a girl. The other one who doesn't have a name yet My teenager who asserts itself over the chicks when they are together because they are the only ones smaller than it and even the ducklings who are younger out rank it on account of them being massive. If anyone has a guess as to its breed as well as gender that would be brilliant! I suspect Sussex is involved. Loving all the photos and the crow stories and the broody hen stories crack me up. With the recent events in my life lord knows I could do with a laugh!
and my suspected Roo who is also nameless. If both brown ones are the same breed and age it may be possible one of them is a roo too just because of the difference. One of the blues seems to be a roo. This is my novice opinion tho! White one is definitely a light sussex
They are good names. She just didn't quit. Pippi Longstocking came to mind for me. Real spunk. Only oldies will remember Pippi. My little fellow is adamant it is Splash though to replace the Splash bantam of his that the fox took. They look nothing alike, but they both had rough starts out if the egg.
Oi! I remember pippi! (Just) Great name
They definitely need more space.I can't believe how quickly they grow. I've been getting their food from Petstock and I don't whether I'm blind but I can't seem to find any chicken grit there and online it all seems to be adult grit. As the chicks are only 4 weeks old I should maybe be feeding them a medium sized grit. Where abouts would I find that? TIA. Edite: also they're Pekin Bantams, would that affect the size of the grit needed?
fancy has already since replied to this :) if they have access to their own dirt and rocks they dont need extra grit
It's Tetra's hatching day! Whee! I popped out around 6am and lifted her up just a smidge to see if we had any babies under her wing but saw all of the eggs were pipped instead. I let Tetra settle back down (thankfully she's very gentle with that and is terribly forgiving of me lifting her fluff to see) and I put a sheet over the entire maternity brooder so that she doesn't have to deal with seeing the other hens wandering past while she hatches the babies. [/URL] Babies, babies everywhere! QUOTE] Yay!!!! Babies, babies!! That frog as a mummy is absolutely adorable! Great idea son!
I know this has nothing to do with this conversation but how do I start a thread(I have not been on here for a long time)?
Go to the menu, then to forums, then 'add new' or whatever it says to add a new thread Might get some more pics of my chicjs today for u guys, theyre getting SO big!

Uuuugh.  My dog Bruno has started egg stealing again.  I'm finding my plastic dummy eggs all over the yard from when he realizes he's not getting a tasty treat and drops them.  I think it may be time for me to fill more shells with hot sauce and give doggy a treat. >:D

Thor is nearly 4 and will still steal an egg if he gets a chance. Zeus had grown out of that phase by about 2 but Thor i don't think he will ever grow out of it.

Bottom 4 pictures i would say are all roosters by the size of the combs. Roger could be a hen but hard to say from that pic. Pingu looks to be a hen so far.
