There unfortunately aren't many shady trees around but they do seem to be staying in their shed, it's just that the sun is so harsh when they do go out I don't want them to end up with sore bottoms! Thanks for the feedback
I have never heard of people getting chemical burns from sunscreen? Only allergic reactions to the non-sensitive skin ones. But hey that's just me!! Thanks for the feedback

I react very badly to even sensitive products. I get a burn like reaction. Chickens have a different make up of course. Personally I wouldn't risk it when providing shade will reduce the risk.

I suggested grit as they are just on a patch of grass not really running round where they will find grit sized rocks. Having had compacted crop surgery here full of wound up undigested grass I like to err on the side of caution these days when they start eating grass and make sure they have something in their crop to grind down that grass. You can buy stone grit for birds at the pet shop, I was surprised just how large the stone size is for just a cockatiel, nowhere near plain dirt size or sand. It wasn't unlike the finer gravel size of fish tank gravel but not as smooth. So unless they have access to fine stones I'd be giving them bought grit.

This one has been hanging around the bottom block for some time now . I'd say to hubby when we were sitting out on the verandah, ' did you hear that ? ,sounds like a peacock ' . He'd say ' nup '. Yesterday we were fencing the foaling paddock , he called and then appeared directly opposite us .
I've had several people offer me peacock chicks, but I've always resisted the temptation. A friend of mine has them and they roost on her car.
They poop the size of a dog.

Thanks. I was sure she had just laid for the sake of laying and wasn't going ot hatch any. She proved me wrong. As of yesterday i had 2 out of the box.

Hi guys, long time no see, I've been having a world of trouble with this site on my phone, I've written a few replies to posts and they just never post, forget about adding photos (I could be writing all this for nothing again :/ )

Heard some immature crowing this morning. Would you believe from the d'uccles, my big boys are around 16 weeks and not a peep yet the 7 week old d'uccle is trying to crow!!
