Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

To appps, teila and satay ( and other posters I may not have seen on my BYC meanderings ) ... re weather ??

Last night I went to bed ( which translates to sitting in my recliner chair, trying to watch TV - - - for 3.5 minutes before I fall asleep !! ) .... I had a hot water bottle, a woollen cardigan AND a winter coat on ... reclining in comfort and to a degree, some warmth. ..... It was freezing here, ( the Dandenong Ranges, Victoria ), in the early hours. Middle of winter stuff.

So yes - the weather is all over the place. Makes one wonder what this summer will bring. I do hope those awful heat temps abate for you all up there in the north .... and that you can go about your daily routines without perspiring lbs of weight off !! I can tolerate humidity and wet, but not the dry northerly winds we get at times down south here. They are treacherous.

..........

To Fancychooklady .... the sardines sound like a great idea, to cover any nasty tastes from worm mixtures. Will do that. I DO believe it is the taste that puts them off. Will not now, according to your advice - administer worming mixture diluted way down. I absolutely see your point on that.

Will try the bread and rice +++++ stuff I mix up for them ( spoilt brats they are ) .... and pour the made up worming mixture into that, next time around - which will be in about 8 weeks..

Meantime, enjoy your snow .... coming up to Christmas that is quite extraordinary, and I kind of hope it snows for you on Christmas Day. Have been in the northern hemisphere ( U.S. ) during Christmas, and it is a whole other ball game ... something I will always remember and cherish - - a deep snow Christmas, cold as all get out.

About 7 years back, I woke up on Christmas morning to white .... everywhere. A very heavy fall of hail had happened at dawn - and it was beautiful ( but dangerously slippery ). Brought backall the memories of my time in the U.S. .... and that was in the Dandenongs ( Upwey ).

It was a rare occurrence.

Cheers .......

Definitely mixed weather, over the last week I've had both our hottest and coldest temp since February

So apparently ive skipd a few pages.. oops! Well again on weather but also an update on my flock -

Got rid of all my obviously roosters today, theres one im still a little unsure of, which im so thankful for as today was 33 and its gonna keep going up all week! So i didnt want them stuck in the 'small' coop during that heat. So great timing, also means i dont have more mouths to be feeding lol.

So i couldnt see one of the chicks this arvo, will count them in a tick when i shut them in. Should have 11 pullets out of the batch i think which i am stoked with :-D

Dont think i can call them chicks much longer tho they are 8 weeks and huge! :-D

Yesterday I had a puffy jacket on and suffered wind burn on my lips, today we were in tShirts and got sunburn. we had a full weekend tackling the elements at state champs.
Lots of placings and DD was very happy with her mount.

Way off topic ... but as we are all 'bird freaks' ( well, I am !! ) .... I would like to share a story with you all --- from my son Craig who is in Antarctica, on his 2nd deployment there.

When deployed, they are permitted a certain amount of alcohol and other personal things to take with them. Craig loves a whisky, so he takes a years worth with him, which actually isn't much.

Last week, he dipped into his 'stock' and wandered off down to the wharf with a whisky, to 'chill out' ( pun intended ) and enjoy the scenery and anything else he might come across. They can do little wanders in summer - never in winter. But that's another story.

One lone Emporer Penguin wandered into the area. Squawked at Craig ( I don't know how to describe properly their sound ) ... so Craig 'squawked' back - mimicking as best he could, the sound. ( I'd have paid a kings ransom to witness the squawking thing !!! ) ,,,, Anyway -

It must have been a great mimic effort, as the Emporer moved closer and closer - ' talking ' all the time. Came to within 4 feet of Craig, and other people interested as to what was happening on the wharf - - wnt down to investigate.

Not that he could do anything about that - they are not permitted to touch the fauna down there, unless for scientific purposes. Craig didn't mind --- the Emporer took off, waddling on his big black feet.

I think Craig wanted to adopt him !!! No dice son, cannot do. !! ... Rules is rules.

Here is a pic of the lonely little ( big ) fella ....( they stand about waist high to a reasonably sized man of 5'.9" .... would give our chooks a run for their money !! )

I think he was still talking in this pic .....

Congrats on rehoming the roosters RodneyRooster.

Fancy that picture is absolutely beautiful and well timed. It would look perfect on the front page of any equestrian magazine or book .. well done!

Anniebee I also thank you for sharing such a lovely and special story; an experience I have no doubt your son will not forget.
