Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Oh btw, who was it suggested those wire compost bin flat packs from Bunnings for an easy fence? I bought two packs and it's been great. I can give them an area to graze out their gate and it's solid enough I can drape some bird netting over to make it hawk proof. If I'm out with them I can just make it one long fence that stretches to our pool fence to give them a bigger area but still keep them contained and out of my garden. When hubby wants to mow he just folds it all back into a flat pack and leans against the fence. No more trying to move all my wire and tomato stakes and looks much neater! Thanks for the tip!

Teila .... ( your comment )

While I say we had a good day yesterday, not so sure KiKi, Crystal and LuLu would agree. Their day started out with the indignity of having their butts washed and they were not overly impressed. In my defence, they should not have such fluffy butts and should put more thought into the whole pooping process

Then they got to spend the whole day pottering around in the garden, between rain showers, while I cleaned the coop and water containers and pottered in the garden. For lunch they got sardines which are always a hit. I think I have mentioned before, I swear Blondie has a death wish and she has opted for death by garden fork or spade

"Death by garden fork or spade" .... why do they DO that. Treacle beaks - and "I have to be in this " .... makes gardening a real challenge.

I am beginning to think I am spoiled by my chickens .... they just love having their butts washed clean. I pluck a few feathers out that are gross and too hard to wash clean - and it doesn't bother them at all ( I am sure it doesn't hurt them as they are quite willing to pick out their own feathers on occasions - during a moult ?? ). There are no complaints whatsoever, no shrieked objections. Always an area of bare butts results - not a large area, but enough, which they subsequently cover with their other feathers. I always do this in the twilight time - when they are more docile, so I can't really claim to be good at it, at all.

But I agree - that they should be a little more thoughtful in the poopy-doing department .......

The photo accompanying the comment " We've had a big day and are very tired" is really beautiful.

Your girls all relaxed and enjoying their own 'togetherness'. The ornamental frog in the foreground is priceless !! It actually says a whole lot ? "Aaarggh - chooks ! - and all quiet ?? - what gives " And no, I have not given over to anthro-ing garden gnomes and decorations. ( although anything is possible ).

Cheers - and enjoy your week ......

Hey Annie, thank you. While they have all learnt that me digging in the garden is a good time to catch bugs and worms, they usually all hover around, wait for me to move on and then make a beeline for the recently dug soil .. all except Blondie, she has obviously heard that old ‘early bird catches the worm’ and wants to be first, before I have finished

When I say the girls are not impressed, they do not seem to mind the luke warm water, it is more the putting in bit. They do sit there quietly while I clean them but hubby is needed to ensure they do not make a break for it.

Froggy seems to make it into a lot of my chicken photos probably because they like that spot when it is windy. It is between the raised corrugated iron garden and the cat run so well protected from the wind.

I have no idea how much Froggy weighs but he is solid concrete and is very heavy. He is part of the family and I have had him for probably 20 years now. While he is not particularly attractive, I have dragged him along whenever we move.

I took this one in March last year

Satay, apparently red bellied snakes eat brown snakes so that would make me think twice about moving it along if I had acerage.  They are also not as aggresive as brown snakes so the chance of living peacefully with her is much higher - unless you disturb her by accident.

Teila, I really feel for you with the early morning noise issues.  We went through hell with that and have mostly resolved it.  My two cents for our situation was that I learned to NEVER feed them in the morning.  All their treats, grazing time and anything else has to happen late afternoon.  Week-ends are more problematic because I'm more conscious of them waking others up and they know that - if I'm home alone they know shoutiing doesn't help.  If the kids or hubby are home, they try their luck & someone is more likely to give in.  When they do complain, it doesn't last as long though.  It took me ages to move them to afternoon stuff and it was very painful for everyone.  I still can't believe my neighbours never complained to the council.

I think that one is a old wives tale so the local snake catcher tells me. He buys quails from us for his snakes but either way i am happy to have her stay.
