As for colour, we are sticking with stained timber.

As mentioned, the coop will be higher than it is now but pretty simple .. roomy, nest boxes and roosts.  Besides the whole thing being covered, they will have a nice sheltered area under the coop.  At the moment, the coops actually take up room in the run and while raised, not enough that they can do much under them.  The run will not be as long as they have now but they will actually end up with more room.

Thanks, do they have to have a certain number of "concubines" each?  Do they have "their" girls, or is it just a free-for-all? 

usually the roosters will all try to mate most of the hens, but some hens will pick a particular roo they prefer and stick close meaning the other Roos won't get a chance to mate her. A higher rank too will knock a lower rank off a hen if he see it try to mate.

When I open the pic , although it is a little grainy, I see a rather pink star comb developing. Do you have many star combed silkies ?

Is this what you mean by a star comb?

If it is then I have none at the minute, but both streaks and shows carry the gene for it, and I know either roohen, Ruffles or both also carry it, by the amount of chicks I get with them, usually though if they get that comb they don't get the silkie feathers, but I have had a few in the past.
