Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Sometimes I wish I had a limit here,
In a way, once you've got one of a pet, having more doesn't make that much more work. I have to go and feed the chooks, whether I've got one or however many. You obviously get more poo and you need more food and bigger feeders/waterers, but otherwise it's not really that much different if you've got several or only one.

The problem comes when you can't assess accurately whether you've got the room for everyone to be healthy.

Space is not my problem, we have over 50 acres, time is. Feeding 70 odd chickens morning and night can be quite time consuming and cleaning out pens is an all day affair. Life was much simpler when I had 20 chooks.

I have checked on our councils website and I can't find how many we can have. I'm not going to ask then I don't have to worry about it. ;)
We have 10 ISA's, 9 young australorps, 5 young silkies. Our neighbours have chooks too. Not sure what will happen when they grow up and we find some roos in the mix.
I've heard silkie roos are quiet.  My granddaughters have told me we have to keep all of them. I want to hatch some more when it gets cooler. The ISA browns have always been very quiet except when they lay an egg.

Check the local laws section of their website. In Queensland that is where you find it. It may be called animals local law or something similar.

Beautiful babies.

Are you calling me batty??
