Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Sorry I meant comb, the mucous had gone. Thanks for that.
I'm feeling like I'm ready to help the little come out of its shell its been 26 hours and its cheeping heaps.
2  have hatched this afternoon. One hatched while Mia (granddaughter) was watching she was so excited, I thought the poor thing would go back in its shell for the excited yelling.
I'm thinking if I gently pull some shell away and see if that helps. Its seems to be stuck and not able to move it head enough to chip away at the shell any further. The egg is not wide its more long.
Thanks for all the good wishes.

I find if they a cheeping a lot they are at least still strong. Is it shrink wrapped? Has the membrane gone white?

Edited to add - Fancy's on it. Will leave to her.

I have chipped away the way a chick does a complete circle around the end of the egg, now I thought I would give it a bit of time to see if it could push its way out. The others chicks are picking at it so I thought I'd give it another hour then maybe chip some more away. the membrane is white the are a few blood vessels but they aren't bleeding. That's why I'm taking it slow I am worried the egg yolk has not been fully absorbed. but I would have thought as it started pipping about 27 hours ago and the ones that started this afternoon have already hatched that it would be pretty much ready to hatch.
Does anyone have any thoughts on that?

As long as the membrane is soft and rubbery all is good, once it shrink wraps it makes getting them out so much harder. I pop mine either in an egg cup or a muffin case to give them time and shield them from the others.

I have helped it out and its doing fine so far. Stumbling around as they do bumping into each other. I just went very slow and used a wet cotton bud to make sure nothing was stuck. It all went well it pushed it way out when I'd gotten half the shell off. I put it back into the incubator to dry off. I still have 2 eggs to go 1 is zipping out now the other hasn't done anything yet. I put them in the incubator 3 weeks ago today. So I guess I will wait a day or so before checking the one that hasn't hatched. I want to put another batch in the incubator as quick as possible so they age difference isn't so big.
Thanks for all the help.

Hi from the Barossa Valley - just added a Muscovy drake & his mate to my family of 12 chooks - after a day of squawking and carry on all seems to be at ease - both are enjoying a couple of pools with parsley, spinach & various herbs & greens added to the pool - happy to hear any hints about treats - I've never had ducks before. Cheers, Jill

My ducks love frozen peas. I throw a few handfuls in the kiddy pool and they jump right in and have fun.

Good morning folks

Tee hee LuckysMum I chuckled when reading about the little one going back into it’s shell from the excited yelling .. so adorable and that little one might just be her favourite.
