Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Yes of course! He has three girlfriends, but, as they are bantams they don't have the same "allure" of the full sized breeds he is obsessed with. He is quite focussed in his attentions. He only ever manages to mount the unfortunate birds neck. He then gets a swift kick.

Oh poor roo. On the wrong end of proceedings, isn't he.

Can you give him a standard sized hen of good breed ( maybe ) ....and let him and her, settle in to make babies ? That would be so nice. Meanwhile remove the bantams who do all the kick-boxing ...

Have always found the smallest of animal or bird, to be the feistiest, potentially aggressive, loudest.

Same with smaller adult humans - - - - - don't cross 'em !! - - - ever

Just nod politely and agree, and keep your own counsel. !! . LOL ( I speak from experience, hope no one here takes umbrage at that statement ).

Cheers ......

The difference in the size of those chickens is quite amazing.   Standard favorolles seem to be very big ( as I mentioned elsewhere to SilkieChickStar, but hers is a bantam Favarolles  ).   And this Favorolles in the photograph, seems heaps bigger than the other 3 black girls.

And that's about all I know about them ( except that they are beautiful chookies ).

I would have to ask - are your Belgians only bantam sized ?  .... and do Belgians D'Uccles ever come in standard size ? ....    or are they bred only as bantams ?   I cannot get much help from Googling, and would really like to know.

Cheers .........

Belgians only come in bantam size.

This morning I found our resident sparrow hawk in the light Sussex coop. He was a little exhausted and allowed me to stroke him. The chickens didn't seem to be at all intimidated by him so I'm guessing he has visited before.

Doing a catch up. I've missed a lot of posts.

Gorgeous little guys. How old is LG - is he likely to improve?

He'd have to be 18 months -2 years old. No he just doesn't seem interested in the girls. He is a lovely guy , but I don't think he will be fertilising any eggs. The girls are coming back into lay so I will check them out for bulls eyes . I think that he is afraid that anytime now King George is going to appear and whop him, not that KG ever really hurt him.

He has 7 standard size hens ( Faverolles, Welsummers, Sussex and a Barnvelder) and the 3 bantams! He is only interested in the standards so far. They see through the little "come here" dance he does for them. Poor fella...the more effort he puts in the greater the disdain! I'm not sure if he could make chicks with a standard?? On the odd times he mounts before getting in trouble, he ends up sitting on the poor hens neck!!

Wow. That's pretty cool. We have lots of birds of prey here, including Sparrowhawks. We had a sea eagle today. The local Sparrowhawk flew at the Peacock last week. It was a white bird against a white sky in a gum tree. I think it thought one of the legs was a bird or something! Anyway, the hawk flies straight at the huge Peacock, and realised too late there was no hope of a meal! It bounced of the Peacocks chest and kind of spun in the air! Must have had the shock of a lifetime. The peacock looks down, and decides something terrible has happened. He flew down to me (he is very tame) honking and fluffing up his neck feathers. He didn't lose a single feather.

Howdy folks

SilkieChickStar how is your pullet doing?

Coram love the pic of the Faverolles & Belgians; also your OEG bantam roo and the tales of his dramas at wooing the ladies

I had a chuckle at your Sparrowhawk V Peacock tale also .. not only is your Peacock a beautiful bird, it sounds like he has a matching personality.

Fancy I found an exhausted Turtle Dove in the run with the girls yesterday, he appears to have exhausted himself in his efforts to get out. Like chickens, they figure out how to get in and then instantly forget so they can not get out again

Anyways, I knew they could get in via a smallish gap just above the human door and this has now been fixed so no more visitors.

Mixed emotions at the moment in that I am pleased I caught the rat which we think was living in next doors’ carport in the boxes under the tarp but also sad that it had to be that way

Looks like we are in for a rainy day .. up to 20mm predicted and it is overcast and raining at the moment. It is good to see the girls scratching around in their covered run and happy they are not getting wet. Sadly, as is always the case here in Brisbane, after rain comes the wind and tomorrow is predicted to be Windy on the BOM; looks like it will be a day in the coop for the Princesses tomorrow.

That is annoying! Let me know what they say to you.

They replied today with a request for more info etc. I suspect though it may be where I have the solar panel as I've just got nowhere gets more than an hour or two sun each day. That said however, it's been turned off for 3 days and even with that hour or so a day still won't open the door so not sure what to think.

I'm going to get an extension wire for the panel and put it right over in the sun, when the rain stops anyway, has set in for the week.
