Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Our winds are only 45kms an hour. The new run I am building was blown away last night. Hopefully it will back off a bit on Wednesday and Thursday so I can get it re-done before I have to move the chooks on Friday.

400

Even with all the wind I still managed to mow!! Apologies for the lack of fowl! They had to spend the day locked away.

Where are you?

Im in the Adelaide Hills. Im not the only one, 20,000 people without power in the state and they're predicting more outages. Its harder when animals are involved and being on a farm. I feel bad for all small business' who have to close while all this is getting dealt with. Had a heart attack this morning lifted up one coop hoping no one was crushed underneath, thankfully they were hiding under a bush but later that day that bush was flying away! Never seen anything like it! Thanks everyone hope its not too bad when it heads to you. Its has been like a cyclone. Scary.

So shutting the laundry door wasn't enough to deter Ada

Unfortunately for her the cat-flap is too small for her robust frame to fit through (the peg is because our cat didn't like pushing the flap open herself). She startled me though, silly chook! They're all convinced that doors a magical gateway to tasty treat land or something though.

Had to have a closer look at that on the enlargement thingo .... and it is so funny. Peeping in and trying to figure out how to negotiate it - for more FOOD !!!

The peg, your cat that won't push through the flap - the whole scenario is delightful and very amusing. Have never had dog or cat flaps .... too much worry about where they might get to when outside. Have a friend whos' Golden Retriever goes off at a full-on run - through the dog flap - never misses a beat, and has never hurt himself at the speed
he goes. It's kind of terrifying to watch, actually.

@Fancychooklady and others impacted with the crazy weather down south at the moment. Hope you all and your chickens are going ok.

Currently waiting for the onslaught that has been promised. !! Hope to wake up tomorrow to a lovely covering of snow ( although I won't hold my breath ). Mt. Dandenong temps for tomorrow are minimum. 1°C to maximum 5°C with wind chill factor lowering it all, way down below all that.

Chooks will be caged birds again !! If it hails, I might let the big girls out for a bit of fun for 5 mins, chasing hail stones, ( they so love hail ) but not if they are large stones.

Cheers ( brrrr ) ......

I have just found the weirdest thing with BB biddas rooster. He has been outside the door this morning so i went out to check him and he seems to have lost his spurs on both feet. I found them and they appear to have just fallen off. All intact . Both sites where they have come off are bleeding so i have cleaned him up and used antibiotic ointment and wrapped them. Wonder what would have caused this to happen. They were there this morning when i let him out and he hasn't moved from outside the front door since so nothing has attacked him.

Could he have caught himself between wood slats or garden rocks or something ? That is very very strange.

Bleeding sounds as though he has been caught somehow, somewhere and ripped off both spurs in freeing himself

.... no amount of trouble animals and birds can get themselves into ......( I have, we all have - discovered

Only just got the power back in my house, 24 hours without power. Incubators and chicks under lights had to be driven to a friends place. Coops blown over, fences completely smashed, fences stolen, 50+ year old gums uprooted. So it been pretty wild down south. Hopefully a break in the wild allow some tidying/fixing up. Hope everyone else is alright, vic and nsw lock down everything its heading your way.

Lots of damage up here in the hills too - and that is just today. Overnight could be nasty - towards morning. We have a lot of underground creeks flowing around here, and that causes trees to topple. Soggy underground, nil root hold.

Hope you can get everything back in good order soon redguinea. You sure have copped it there in Sth Australia.

Weather is supposed to behave itself toward the weekend. ( we can but hope !! )

Meantime, here, we batten down the hatches for another go around.

Only power outage here, was for 2 hours, 24 hours ago. Having said that ............. ?????????

Cheers - and stay safe all. .....

I didnt want to suggest it because I didn't think someone could be that cruel but does it look like someone cut his spurs off?
