Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hey appps, sorry, I can see where the Mr Floppy Ears may have mislead you; yep, he is a cat. That nickname is because his ears are folded.

I knew you did not mean a hurty trap. I am patient, I would rather try and earn his trust than have a big, spitting fur ball in a trap

Annie because he is quite a big cat and ginger, I just assumed he was a Tom cat. Aren’t all totally ginger cats male or is that an old wives’ tale?

I confess to only getting very short term, long distance looks at him and the longest I have spent with him was when I sat on the path where I was more interested in talking to him than checking out his coat condition etc. This morning was when I noticed it looked a little matted and definitely had some dirt in it.

He is a beautiful cat! I think he is a Scottish Fold but I do need to get a closer look at him or a picture I can study, zoom in etc. Yep, his ears stay folded when not frightened. I have seen him wandering down our front path, past the front door when he was not frightened and he did not know I was there. Also I have seen him sleeping under the front tree when he did not see me at the front window.

Fancy I do love a happy ending!

I could be wrong and Floppy has a home and family etc. The couple of things that makes me think he does not is that he seems to spend a lot of time here and not there and as mentioned, in all sorts of weather. Also, as Annie mentioned, I do not think he would have been cheap and would you really let something that cost you that much money wander the streets? Surely he would be a pampered inside cat?

Anyways, if you know me at all by now, I am happiest when I have a little project and that project involves animals .. Mr Floppy Ears and I are going to be best buds

Teila .... You are partly right - a large % of ginger cats are indeed male - but not all. However, my guess would be he is male, and most likely entire, his size, and if he has been the one involved in fights, and having a go at your cats. One link I came across ( there are many ) about male ginger cats - is interesting. http://www.sciencefocus.com/qa/it-true-most-ginger-cats-are-male

I am presuming this to be correct, as another site also mentioned it is not correct that all gingers are male. Claimed it to be a "misconception". Depends on the chromosomes inherent in both parents of an offspring that results in all ginger coating - or not. Personally, I know little about it - only what I have read.

If you cannot successfully find an owner, ( Fancy's suggestion excellent - provided the State requires microchipping and you being in Queensland, it does ). Northern Territory and South Australia do not require micro-chipping ( so I found out by googling !! ), it might be a real blessing to you, to win his trust, nurture him, have him neutered, and enjoy the friendly and rather inquisitive nature of a Scottish Fold - if indeed that is what he is ----- and it certainly sounds like it from your sightings - which is as I read it - permanently folded ears, no matter what situation he is in.

The saddest thing is when a family breaks up - they have animals, and one of the partners decides to deprive his / her partner of what they most love and delight in - which results in pets being dumped - wherever will do ......

It does happen. A sad indictment on society.

I will be very interested in the outcome of this Teila ... and look forward to more updates ( even though Mr. Floppy Ears is not a chook !!! )

I am sure all of us here will be interested.

Good onya .........

Cheers ( from the Googling tragic ).

Well with all the foul weather we've been having apparently the snow rapidly melting, along with this rain will result in flooding at 4am. The cows are standing at the back gate, the horses and goats are up , going to be a long night with promised power outages.

Fancy --- Oh that sounds like fun ..... NOT. Can only hope this onslaught goes away very quickly for us southerners.
165 kmph winds on Mt. Wellington earlier today ( Thursday ? ) .... would've been dreadful.

Our ( Vic ) weather forecasts have now announced that the cold front is being pushed north to Queensland, so ........

To all up there in the north, who are many times part of this thread, be careful, stay safe and take care.

Cheers .......

Ahhh that's different, was thinking it would take you forever to get a bunny tame enough to catch lol

It's a hard one, on one hand you don't want it destroyed but on the other it might be destroying wildlife to survive poor thing. Last time I was at the vets a lady came in and got a cat trap from them. She had a stray with a tiny collar round it's neck she was worried would eventually be strangled by it (holiday area so maybe holiday dumped pet). So maybe that's an option rather than having to go through council? means you get to decide where it goes not the council guys. The vet was saying she could take to the rspca or somewhere else which I don't remember but that the somewhere else was a better bet as they were more likely to try and give it time to become pet friendly enough than the rspca would.

Annie bee. I'm pretty sure I remember reading something like that to get rid of Minah birds years ago. Not sure where I did but I think it was sadly a pretty common practice.

Good info. there appps ....... about wild life carers and vets etc. Vets here in Victoria, do not charge anyone a cent, when bringing wild life in to be healed, medicated or sadly, put to sleep. Probably the same everywhere in Australia.

I never knew of such a thing until the former friend told me about it - pleased as punch she was. I thought it was a viciously cruel practice. Not the Mynahs fault that they are Mynahs. Disgusted and ... disgusting.

Destroying wild life to survive, is why such stringent laws and curfews are in place in the Dandenongs. Makes people sit up and take notice too ... they don't want to pay the fines, and most don't want to lose their pet(s). Applies to dogs, in terms of registration etc., and any dog found killing wild life or domestic animals like lambs, is immediately sent to all dogs final resting place. ( if it can be caught - some dogs on the roam used to band together and go feral - but not so much up here any more ).

........... Take care ...

I wish I could remember more about the mynah thing but try as I might it's just little bits coming back to me. I suspect it was being told how bad Indian mynahs were and that somebody was doing something similar to your ex friend. I think it was too long ago for Google to have existed the more I think about it.

Dogs killing stock isn't tolerated here either and if it happens you can bait them. Only problem is you have to warn your neighbours who probably own the dogs in question so not sure how effective it is. My old boss used to keep sheep on his hobby farm but lost so many to dogs in the end he just gave it up and stuck to larger stock. The whole baiting thing was very regulated and inspected when he tried that. We lived on an acre just out of town as kids and dogs killed our pet Ram. Can't understand people who don't keep pets contained.

Have been awake since 2-30, at least 30 acres of our land is under water. Nearly lost 2 of my white silkie hens, by the time I got to their coop they were bobbing around like apples. I say that cause the flood water is full of bobbing apples, those that were left to rot on the trees in the orchard next door. My new fences and gate are completely submerged and we are set for another high tide in an hour. We did lose one of the angora goats , not to water but to the elements. He was 14 years old.

So sorry to hear of what you are dealing with Fancy ..... and very sad to hear of the loss of your angora goat. He was a good age, and no doubt had a wonderful life there on your farm.

Just hope the waters subside quickly after another high tide today .... the photograph reminded me of the Murrumbidgee River in NSW !! .

Great photo, even though relating to flooding and possible damage to yours and others properties. Do hope there is little to no damage to find once the waters recede.

Cheers ..
