Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Anniebee, that was an interesting post about the Chilean Araucana, thank you :)

Appps, maybe I should keep my mouth shut, we need sunshine to keep working on the nest boxes this weekend. Plus I'm sooooo sick of cleaning and drying little dirty feathered feet! I swear last shower a few days ago, about an hour before bed Beatrice managed to get as wet as she could, on purpose, just so she could have her feathers blow dried. Little smart alec was falling asleep whilst I dried her.

My white silkies all have dirty heads from feeding in the mud. I have a little hen in the foyer with a prolapsed vent and she is enjoying the warmth from the fire.

I hope she recovers soon

At night we're getting very heavy condensation, and foggy mornings, leads to damp dirt and grass in shady areas all day, and regularly dirty chickens.

Well Winry was perfectly fine this morning, gasping sound gone. So strange, must be a dust in the airways thing.

However gave me an opportunity to feel her crop again and at 3pm it was quite squishy feeling so I'm thinking we didn't quite knock the bug on the head last time. Back to square one and the nilstat drops but this time I'm going to do the antibiotics as well like we did with Al who seems to have totally recovered. Poop looks normal though so that's good.

Oh no - it sounds like a bit of illness is about. I hope everyone recovers quickly.

I need help!

My cockatiel is sitting on its perch shaking. Looking ratty and just shaking. Does any one have any clues? Of course all the vets are fully booked.

Cheers and as always thanks.

Oh dear, not sure what that could be. Ours does seem to shiver from time to time but not combined with looking ratty.

Does it get outside daylight? As in sunshine not through a glass? That's something I've only recently discovered is essential for health, as the glass removes the vitamin D.

That's a good thought. I have kept the window closed lately with the less than predictable weather we've had here lately and not pushed the cage out on the deck for a while because I'm l haven't thought to. I will do that on the weekend. Thanks.

My only advice would be to keep him warm and perhaps some electrolytes.

I was hoping that you guys might get behind this petition to save our little tassie poultry supplier.
What you won't read between the lines is that one neighbour that has close links to the council, has decided that he doesn't want to smell animals in the country. I say ' if you don't like the smell of the country, move to the city. '

What a ridiculous statement to make ... "doesn't want to smell animals in the country ".??

The city fumes are far worse, so perhaps he'd enjoy that more ???

And let me guess, the chickens were there before he moved in? It amazes me how often people move somewhere then complain about stuff that was there before they were. Signed for you.

Thanks Fancy,

So many business have had to close because they get built out and incoming neighbours make complaint. It infuriates me as people have invested blood sweat and tears into their enterprises. They call it progress.

Yeah like the sound of a revved hoon car is less disruptive than a rooster crowing, the smell of stale beer and vomit on the gutter is less offensive than the smell of animal manure. Like you say let them move to the city.

In this case what are they trying to use as the basis for taking action. I see they have had to take a sign down and apparently want to make building improvements which are being denied. I assume the existing buildings have been rejected as suitable and the sign removal as part of the close down. Sorry but the fighter in me against unfair authority has been awakened.
