Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hi again guys!! How are you all? I haven't read all I've missed sorry, I would need a year haha
Dropping by to ask for advice on dog bites, cho takes it upon herself to get out of the run every morning, my new pup often chases her despite my attempts to deter her. This morning she managed to catch cho while I was out. I'm not proud of it but she got a decent smack when I found her!
Anyway I've got cho inside in a cat carrier I've looked her over, there's no deep punctures that I can see, pup was only playing after all, quite a few feathers on her back and breast missing and a couple shallow gashes, I've cleaned them with some diluted dettol as that's all I have on hand right now, just wondering what else I can do to help her recover, Ginny of course is broody again as is the pekin way so no eggs for me for a while I think!!
Attached some pics of cho's wounds

And one of my newest additions

Dettol is good diluted, but Betadine would be better if you can get some from a chemist. Puppy probably only wanted to play, but their little teeth are so like needles, it's little wonder they can so easily puncture skin - raise blood. Keeping her inside for a few days would help, letting her out only by herself in the garden - or wherever away from the other chickens.... they seem to be attracted to blood - and you don't want any further trouble for her.

Pup will learn hopefully - start the 'treats' teaching - but ONLY when she obeys. ... A loud "NO" when she doesn't. Can you keep her away from the chookies ... or take her out on a lead, and if she strains to get at the chickens "NOOOO" ... and if she does as she's told and doesn't pull, give a treat with "Good girl". Continue until she gets the messages.

Good luck. .......

The 6 chicks look like little fluff balls!! All my chickens are on my Nanas farm so I haven’t seen them yet.
My eggs in my incubator are due this Saturday and Sunday!! Also the Hamburg’s have layed about 4 eggs and we’ve had them for almost 1 ½ weeks. And I’ve found someone how has Phoenix chickens, they are incubating some eggs at the moment to see if they are fertile then I’ll buy a dozen eggs.

The reason I bought the Hamburg's is because the rooster looks exactly like Spotty (icon)

ChristieB sorry to hear about Cho but with all the great advice you have received so far, I have no doubt she will be as good as new very soon. Congrats on the new additions!

Eeeew Fancy that is a not so nice find! I hope you are able to heal your girl quickly.

Love the little fluff balls jessbonnitcha!

Thanks Anniebee! I had my CT angiogram yesterday. I can’t fault the staff, they were all great. It was, however, funny that I had to get there an hour before my 12:30PM appointment but pretty much sat in the waiting room from 11:30AM with nothing done until 02:30PM and finally got out just after 3:30PM. Now we just wait a week for the results.

Another question, if no-one minds.

I have used ordinary ACV for the chickens, but there are apparently two types. ( Only found this out recently on another blog. ) One is the normal supermarket shelf stuff - fairly cheap and the other is found in the more exotic section of the supermarket and is over $7 a bottle .... and presumably would also be a health food store item.

This is the one that has "Mother" in it - so I googled it that. Found out it has a cobweb appearance, and what it actually is.

Must look carefully at the one I found in the exotic section of our s/m.

Which ACV should I be giving to the girls please.

Cheers .......

I use Naturals by Melrose it's not filtered or pasteurized so it retains sediment and the 'mother'. Apparently that's were all the good stuff is. I hope that helps. That's what was recommended to me. I hope that helps, though I'm sure more knowledgeable people will be able to steer you in the right direction.

Hey Anniebee

I use Macro: Organic, Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar which contains 'Mother; purchased at Woolworths for $4.50 to $5.00 for a 500ml bottle:

I buy mine from the produce store . Think i pay $15 for 5 litres unfiltered. Coles also have it in the health food section about 4 ish dollars i think for a small bottle 500ml. You want to be using the unfiltered one with the mother in it.

So pretty. I love hamburgs. :)

well that is my answer, the chickens are not climbing the trees to get to their nest. their nest is not near our property they fly to our property. secondly bigger issues to worry about one or two less magpies considering they breed like verman. thirdly like I said alot of other illegal issues in this problem then a sling shot. fourthly they kill my FREE RANGE chickens who where here first they WILL be taken themselves. So NO not many people lock their chicken up 24/7, and I am not one of them, they have a covering over their run and the magpies go into their run with a door of the size of no bigger then a cats door so yes I will continue to shoot the magpies with a sling shot if they attack my chicks who are in their territory who don't climb the trees to attack their nest over 500m away from my house. Rude or not that is my answer no appoligies.

Many of us have far more to contend with than magpies. I lose chickens every year to a beautiful white goshawk . We also have owls, sea eagles quolls. Not once have I thought that I should kill any of them to protect my INTRODUCED poultry. If it is your intention to eradicate everything that threatens your flock then you are in for some interesting times. I have over 70 birds and they all free range , but I expect to suffer some losses. That's just a fact of life.
