Sorry to hear about your loss to too. I'm glad that Toby is back on his feet. I wish I could have goats they are one of my favourites. Nearly thirty years ago I lived on a property with over 100 goats and I couldn't believe the different personalities, I am now seeing that in all my chickens who would have thought animals had personalities. (more than some people)

Thanks Luckysmum. I guess in time I might accept it better, but for now I'm a bit all over the place. I'll try to get some pictures of how the coop is looking. It's been raining, and the ramp into the nest box has muddy footprints all over it. Plus the first thing my broody Pekin does when I take her off the nest is go and play in the mud, then eat.

To Fancy ,,, sad to hear that you have lost two chickens recently, but it is the way of chicken raising - they are not always easy, are they. Often bigger worries than other pets - - and children.

But - delighted that your lovely goat Toby, is much better and back on his now healthy feet. .... Wonderful husbandry from you there, methinks.

............

To Fizzybelle ....... so very sorry to hear about Agnes ... You did everything humanly possible for your loved chicken - and while grief will always bring doubts, 'could I have done more' ... the answer is 'no - you couldn't have' ... it is the way it was meant to be, and she is at peace now - and that's the main thing, I think.

............ and where you have both laid to rest your dear chickens, is just beautiful. Brought tears to my eyes.

....... to you both for your losses .... RIP.

.........AB

Thanks to everyone about which type ACV to give to my chickens. The ordinary stuff is now on our pantry shelf for use in cooking or whatever .... The good stuff is waiting. !!

I have read where 1 tablespoon per gallon is ideal for the 'mother' type ACV. ( from U.S. forums / BYC ).

The gallon U.S., is different to the imperial gallon but not by much - so not going to worry about that.

Used to give 1 teaspoon per 1.5 litres of water - when using the ordinary 'unmothered' ACV.

WOULD THIS BE CORRECT ? .... If not, please advise what ratio you put into smaller amounts of water - say 2 > 4 litres.

I have two coops with two different sized water containers but that's no problem - can all be mixed in the one and poured into each.

Just want to know what ratio to what, you all use. Is 1 teaspoon enough / too much for say 1.5 litres of water ?

Puleeeze !!

p.s. ... I am dumb and dumber at maths. !!

To echo other posts, you should not second guess yourself. You did everything you could for Aggie and she was very much loved. RIP Aggie.

Anniebee I also have a variety of water container sizes depending on how many broodys I have in broody jail

I have always gone with 1tsp per 1 litre of water.

The girls got to free range yesterday afternoon after a day of rain .. they had a wonderful time but Blondie looked like she had the most fun; mud all over her huge feathered feet and chest. She definitely did not look like the Princess she is

And, some good news .. As far as I know LuLu did not fall off the roost last night [no unusual noises from the coop] and she was pecking around the run when I woke up this morning showing no signs or symptoms. She is eating and drinking normally also.

I just want to take this opportunity to say that I also love this thread and the friends that I have made on it. The great advice I have received on this thread has surely saved a couple of my girls lives and for that, a big THANK YOU to everyone. You have also saved by sanity on many occasions

Anyone else wondering who Fancy has in the quirky or cheeky column?

I have done so in the past but just want to sing these guys praises again .....

http://www.vetnpetdirect.com.au/

I use them for the majority of my pet needs and find their prices very reasonable/competitive and they have specials quite often on half price shipping over certain $ amounts or free shipping, 25% off etc.

I can not fault their service .. I ordered the Anitone on line at 10:30AM yesterday morning and it arrived at 10:00AM today!

Thanks for the link I just looked and the prices look very reasonable.
It's good that Lulu is better today. I hope all is good now.

That's really good. I'll have to book mark them. I've given up on the one I got my antibiotics from last time, they took five days to even dispatch, and an email asking where it was before they did, both times I used them. Considering it was an instant PayPal payment that's really not good enough.

Hi Annie, the acv with mother is dosed at the same rate. I don't bother to measure, just a dash . :) that way there's no maths involved. :)
