Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Thank you Appps, Anniebee and Teila. It helps hearing from those who understand how much chickens can mean to you. What also helped today was Esme, who was Agnes' best friend. Even though broody (and sleeping in the clucky crate tonight), when I brought her out she spent time with me, jumping onto my lap and enjoying cuddles. The others went about their usual silly business, which was fine, but Ezzie also specifically spent time with me which was comforting. Didn't stop her pooping on my banana lounge like it was going out of style, but I didn't mind as much. Teila, glad to hear LuLu's doing ok, I hope she has no more episodes :) Blondie sounds like she has a lot in common with Esme, I'm glad for the sunshine to dry the ground out. I took this photo after that heavy rain last week I think. You can't fully see how filthy those feet are, but you get the idea. They require a good deal of rinsing and drying, accompanied by loud complaining, before bed.
Oh what a sweetie. :love

Thanks Luckysmum. I guess in time I might accept it better, but for now I'm a bit all over the place.  I'll try to get some pictures of how the coop is looking. It's been raining, and the ramp into the nest box has muddy footprints all over it. Plus the first thing my broody Pekin does when I take her off the nest is go and play in the mud, then eat.

Speaking of broodies Do you want some more :lol: My winter broody bantams are still broody  and to now add to that i have 3 broody aussies and 1 broody hamburg and 2 broody black sexlinks. It's fun collecting eggs in the mornings. My girls can be some what violent when brooding.

Good morning folks :frow

I do not cope well on anything less than 8 hours sleep.  My disposition decreases on a sliding scale commensurate to loss of hours.  So, after an extremely busy work day yesterday with two major outage/disruptions at the same time, followed by only 4 hours sleep, my disposition was not good when I walked out to feed the gals this morning.

After last night’s rain, all the plants in the garden were shining, the birds were singing and the gals were happy dancing cos breakfast was on its way.

I took a walk around the garden and noted the Pepper Tree has replaced a heap of the leaves it lost over winter; Arnie and Danny Avocado both have beautiful green shoots; the capsicum plants have also started replacing leaves and Ming the Mandarin is flowering as are the Habinaro’s, red and green peppers and eggplant.  Everywhere I looked spring was evident, including the goldfish who were very frisky for first thing in the morning.

Right about now, you are probably thinking this is where I say this was the moment I realised it was going to be a beautiful day.  Wrong!  It was when I took that first sip of my first coffee after going back inside and telling the world not to be so freaking cheerful first thing in the morning ;)

Not sure how i missed this post but you have a pepper tree? Where did you get that. I can't stand salt so never put it on anything but i sure love pepper and would love to grow my own.

Good morning folks

Anniebee Mindy is a good layer! Crystal is my best layer but she still takes a day off every 3-4 days.

With the ACV I have a rubber band around the bottle which holds the plastic teaspoon I use for measuring. Definitely not saying that a dash is not OK but if you do want to measure it, having the teaspoon attached to the bottle is easier than digging around for one

You probably already know this but just in case, only use plastic with ACV, no metal or aluminium.

I am thinking the Anitone is not going to hurt Chucky … one of the dose rates mentioned is 'All other animals including cats and caged birds’ and he will not be getting much into him as I am only going to give one brekkie a week a spray at this stage.

There is a daily limit on the ovations you can give. I am not sure of the exact number but may be you exceeded it and that is why your ovation giver is not working.

Fizzybelle Ezzie knew you needed a hug. Our critters know a lot more about us than we probably give them credit for. She is a cutie and yeah, I can see those dirty feet. I will try and get a picture of Blondie’s feet next time she plays in the mud

Woah satay that is broody overkill! I will pass thanks

Sorry, I mislead in my description of ‘Pepper Tree’. I should have said ‘Chilli Tree’. It produces huge amounts of small, multicoloured, hot chillies which I do not bother harvesting because I have larger chillies and the small ones are just not worth the effort but it is very pretty. It is only just over a year old so maybe when it gets older the chillies might get big enough to harvest.

This is not a picture of mine because it is only just recovering from winter but this is what it looks like in summer:

Cilla gave me such a chuckle this morning. As mentioned, she is broken from being GodCilla and getting ready to lay again; squatting. Their water container sits on two bricks. I took it off to refresh this morning and when I got back with it Cilla was sitting on the bricks. Thinking that my lowering the water container onto the bricks would coax her to move, I proceeded to do that .. nope, she squatted for it! I had to put the water container down on the ground and lift Cilla off the bricks

:lau  I should have realized that as you or hubby are from america originally aren't you. Shocking memory as i can't remember which one. I bet it is going to look amazing when it's fully fruiting. I don't have that type but i do have a heap of chilli plants. i have jalapeno, ghost, butch t, the long red one, Birdseye, habenaro, Thai hot and some little bonnet type one that i can't remember the name of. My neighbour convinced me to hack them back a few weeks ago. i'm not usually a hard hack back kinda girl as i am scared of over doing it and killing them but i took the plunge and was so happy to see lots of new green shoots coming out since the rain.

Esme knew you needed a cuddle, maybe Esme needed one too.

I'm sure she did. Remember when my youngest had her first day home alone because her brother finally started school. She was just so lost, she went and pulled her little chair up and just sat with the chickens outside their run. She just sat there, not feeding them or anything and they all just hung with her for about ten minutes, not wandering off, just keeping next to the wire. Was so sweet, then she perked up and off she ran. Think they knew she needed the company :)

Hey satay hubby is the American in the family and I blame him totally!!

We only have Caysan Chillies, Habenaro’s and the previously mentioned multicoloured one. Plus three capsicum plants.

Hubby threw a couple of our Habenaro’s into a chilli the other night .. Wow, they packed a punch!

I reckon chillies grow and produce like weeds! I have been freezing them but as I have a Dehydrator, this season I am going to have a go at drying them and turning them into chilli powder.
