Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Now not so happy, my poor chook is still sick. She's no worse and still eating. Prefers plain rice and won't eat or drink anything with an additive such as vitamins or wormer. She doesn't even like the mackerel in the rice.

Here's my brahma egg from yesterday and day before. She's been laying for about a month.

It's hard to photograph but there is a bulge in a section of each egg, the old one having collapsed on itself. The bulge appears translucent. She has been laying very thin, barely any shell there eggs. I have been putting it down to first eggs and will improve. Now I wonder though if I need to give her some help. They are tiny eggs and her sisters are three times the size - although long bullet shaped as if they have small canals.

Oh and also, the egg from yesterday is also body checked (did I get that right Fancy thanks I never knew the name for that)

Adorable pics!  So very very cute!  Your little D’uccle is gorgeous, love her colours!

Thanks she is the youngest of my four and the only Millie I can tell apart without pick them up and spreading feathers because the under feathers are the only difference. Luckily they like being picked up.

Love the d'uccles they are a great little bird.

I have a friend who's husband hates chickens with a passion! Dirty rodent attracting smelly things - that's the nice version of what he says. Anyway - he loves my d'uccles - I first told him they were pigeons. He roused on me for letting them, free range the other day - they weren't safe.

I wouldn't worry too much about it at this stage. You could try the Anitone, if Teila s fussy girls ate it yours might give it a go. There is a liquid calcium supplement that you just add to the water called ' calcivet ' . If things don't settle down in the next couple of weeks I'd consider getting a bottle.

Howdy folks :frow Hey appps sorry, no idea, that question is way out of my league. jessbonnitcha Congraulations! What a little cutie! This is the button for adding a video. I have never tried it but I think you need to paste a link to the URL [Youtube etc]. I sprayed some Anitone on the girls breakfast this morning and stirred it through; I am so very pleased to report that the fussy little Princesses did not detect it :celebrate
That's excellent ! Here's something to brighten your Saturday.

Spring is definitely in the air. My green cheek conures are nesting and laying. They are 9 this year!

In other exciting news I have a third layer! My little Lavender D'Uccle Daisy left her little egg in the nest box yesterday. This is a picture with the bantam langshan and bantam araucana egg :) So cute!

Good morning folks :frow Anniebee Mindy is a good layer! Crystal is my best layer but she still takes a day off every 3-4 days. With the ACV I have a rubber band around the bottle which holds the plastic teaspoon I use for measuring. Definitely not saying that a dash is not OK but if you do want to measure it, having the teaspoon attached to the bottle is easier than digging around for one ;) You probably already know this but just in case, only use plastic with ACV, no metal or aluminium. I am thinking the Anitone is not going to hurt Chucky … one of the dose rates mentioned is 'All other animals including cats and caged birds’ and he will not be getting much into him as I am only going to give one brekkie a week a spray at this stage. There is a daily limit on the ovations you can give. I am not sure of the exact number but may be you exceeded it and that is why your ovation giver is not working. Fizzybelle Ezzie knew you needed a hug. Our critters know a lot more about us than we probably give them credit for. She is a cutie and yeah, I can see those dirty feet. I will try and get a picture of Blondie’s feet next time she plays in the mud ;) Woah satay that is broody overkill! I will pass thanks  Sorry, I mislead in my description of ‘Pepper Tree’. I should have said ‘Chilli Tree’. It produces huge amounts of small, multicoloured, hot chillies which I do not bother harvesting because I have larger chillies and the small ones are just not worth the effort but it is very pretty. It is only just over a year old so maybe when it gets older the chillies might get big enough to harvest. This is not a picture of mine because it is only just recovering from winter but this is what it looks like in summer: Cilla gave me such a chuckle this morning. As mentioned, she is broken from being GodCilla and getting ready to lay again; squatting. Their water container sits on two bricks. I took it off to refresh this morning and when I got back with it Cilla was sitting on the bricks. Thinking that my lowering the water container onto the bricks would coax her to move, I proceeded to do that .. nope, she squatted for it! I had to put the water container down on the ground and lift Cilla off the bricks :lau
We have the same rainbow chilli bush :)

Happy Saturday,

Here's my wake up.

These were a couple of crossed eggs I threw in with my pure buttercups before the rooster went. Sadly no buttercups were fertile. But I can see my Barny and EE were favourites. 100% fertility on them. This poor little D'uccle must wonder what's going on.

I really need a new phone for better photos.
Cheers

What a beautiful wake up. I'm waiting to see if I've got araucanas babies.
I've never had a hen hatch eggs so I'm very eggcited.

Do I need to give them chick starter when they hatch or does mum feed them, from the big girls feed. (which might be to high in protein)

That is eggciting!

I always give the hen chick starter for a week or two before hand. I don't have any grown up girl feed for the chicks. Remember mum isn't making eggs ATM either. There is nothing like watching a mother feed and teach her chicks how/what to eat - especially bugs. You'll love it. And please still be careful of water dishes fill them with pebble. I'm sure you know that.

I have a bulb type water container they can't get in it and its slightly raised so they can't poop in it. I hadn't thought of mum I will change the feed right now. Thanks

Fancy what a great video I thoroughly enjoyed it.
